According to RM he has no relations with the brand, unlike Rafael Nadal, who were his during US open final.

Oh ok, I didn't know of RM statement. Nadal has a contract, he wears it always on court, so I thought Beckham might have one too.

And in the 70s-80s Mercedes made the best cars around and I personally would not consider to put Richard Mille to that standard

Not to shabby a standard. Would like to know how many of those you consider "best watches around" would stand a set ticking around Nadal left wrist, let alone a 5-set Grand Slam final.

Isn't this the same company Rafa Nadal endorses and wears during a tennis match(on his swinging arm no less)?

In understand he broke the first 6 protypes befoire the 7th survived.

Nadal wears an RM, but not on his racquet arm...

He wears it on his right arm, and plays left handed (although for most things he's right handed apparently).

Interesting thing, you're right of course. All the pics I've seen where he is posing he is holding racquet in his right hand...I imagine its to bring attention to the watch on same hand? but yes plays with his left hand.

Not to say the watch doesn't see stress, as two handed strokes are quite violent. He supposedly broke the first 6 prototypes.

No idea if he broke prototypes or not - he had one or two stolen though...

I'm an avid tennis player, and wear a mechanical watch on my non-racquet arm all the time (Watcho SM300 with a vintage auto movement). The idea that it has to be some super indestructible watch is really a myth...even at the pro level.

But there is an effect... I recall the Ball watch article on Kiss rock band drummer who is an avid watch collector. He wore a watch on stage to test it...doesn't turn out well. Cool article, though.

Yes, and acceleration has the potential to change the rate, but my guess is Nadal breaking prototypes is more about the watch construction than the forces involved.

I don't think his right hand has many G's tossing the ball in the air...

The watch was designed for his serving hand, he just wears it on the other.

Still, $750k is not going on my wrist to play tennis. He gets it for free even though he could afford dozens of them. Nice life, indeed.

I red the article, and didn't really see that stated. It says this:

"Deschanel explained that Nadal’s serve alone measures between 800 and 1,000 Gs; Mille certified the RM 027 RN up to 800 Gs.

Luckily, the southpaw champion wears his Richard Mille tourbillon on the right wrist; unluckily, it is still subjected to the force of his two-handed backhand and the frequent spills he takes thanks to his no-holds-barred style of play. Thus, the entire movement rests on a series of shock absorbers."

It's now rated for more, but I don't see anything that says it was specifically designed to be worn while serving.

The Ball watch(w/springlock) that Eric Singer wore in concert is rated to 7500Gs. It lost approx 5 seconds over an hour vs a std Ball watch that lost several minutes in just three songs worth of play(~10minutes). Something to be said for designing for toughness.

The Ball watch is less than 0.5% the cost of the RM.😵‍💫

Here it is....Nadal's serve is 800-1000Gs.
If the watch was worn all the way out at the racquet 'sweet spot' than those numbers might be relevant...

You have a 2HBH?

I switched to a one handed backhand a couple of years ago, but previously was two handed. If I get caught with a ball on the BH side right at my feet (usually from not moving them!) then I still dig the ball out two handed.

Of course your opposite hand is quite active when you are playing, so when hitting the one handed BH, my right arm is out to the target and the left arm is going out behind me at the same time and pace.

I've worn my SM300 playing tennis for maybe 4 years now, plus a quartz CWC G10, and even a vintage Speedmaster on occasion...no ill effects to any of them.
