The first picture on all of my SD cards is a slip of paper with my name, email, and phone number on it. Hopefully, that makes returning my card/camera so easy that the person would feel bad about not doing it.
Definitely a good idea. Thank you for the tip!

Given that Australia was a penal colony for ruffians and other undiserables it surprises me that the natives have not resorted to mob rule or that they just dont go around stealing everything and beating everyone in sight up. A
By that logic, America would be full of gun-toting Christians.......

My daughter lived in NY and Dallas on a couple of occasions.

My first, and most disappointing vision of the USA was LAX terminal, I thought we'd landed at a bus station.

I visited her in Dallas and we did a road trip all over South West Texas.
In all the time there I think the worst thing I saw was a cranky guest at a restaurant in Galveston.

I shall return.

Last time I was in the US was 2010. Two weeks in DC, Nyc and Baltimore. Realise that is a VERY unrepresentative past of the whole.

I'm currently hoping to spend a year in the US to study. But that prob won't be for another 5 or 6 years.

Some of our airports need a good makeover. Just did a stopover through Newark, NJ. Disgusting place that needs to be blown up and rebuilt.

My point is that the US media tends to blow everything out of all proportion.

No, you're thinking of "Flight of the Conchords."

Went through parts of the US, Central America and the Caribbean several years ago.
Never met an American who wasn't friendly, outgoing and down-to-earth.

Based on what we see on the news, that was a VERY pleasant surprise.

But then again, if you judge us by our politicians and what you see on the news, we are all selfish Neanderthals who desperately want to reproduce the good-ol-days of the 1940's-50's.
But then again.......1950's........'57........first Speedy.........hmmmmm.......maybe there's something in this after all.

After some trips through Europe and meeting some obnoxious american backpackers on more than one occasion, I was loath to go anywhere near America, but my friend wanted to go and it was his turn to choose which country to visit. Such an amazing country and no obnoxious backpackers, perhaps they were on holiday, even NewYorkers were friendly and they have a reputation of being miserable. We had such a great time that we went back again to visit some other cities. I might move to Kuala Lumpa in the summer and I am definately going to visit Oz, to see if it is full of ruffians and undesirables😉

Nobody here has any idea why people still think New Yorkers aren't friendly. If you genuinely need help, like directions or recommendations for a good restaurant or bar, and are polite about it, nobody here will turn you down!

Besides, the only "miserable" people in New York aren't actually New Yorkers - they're just "long-term tourists" who moved here for the wrong reasons, and will soon move out!

Probably based on sterotypes portraied in the media, films and tv programmes. Its a great city with great people, that was my experience. We stayed in Harlem, we met some people in a bar in Mahnhatten and they asked where were staying, we told them and they were like holy sh*t, I would never go to Harlem. I guess you don t need to go far before some peoples prejudice perceptions kick in.😀

My only experience being in the USA was a vacation trip to Boston a few years back. Stayed in the Copley Square Hotel. Even managed to get to see the Pats hammer the Colts in their old Foxboro Stadium.

Lovely place 😀

That was more than a few years back.

Foxboro Stadium closed in 2001.

Staying in Harlem is not a bad idea - I'm guessing you stayed on the west side near Broadway, probably between 110th and 135th or so? The east side of Harlem is still not great, but western Harlem is a shopping mall now. Even all the great old jazz bars are quickly being pushed out!

We stayed on 116th street near Malcolm X boulevard, it was in 2009. We were told that we should be careful if we were going beyond 118th street. New York is quite intimidating if you are used to small cities so we took the advice we were given. We were invited into a bar that had no windows and people having a bbq outside. We gave that a miss although I am sure it would have been fine.

Good man! I left a $100 down jacket at my MMA gym and someone decided to make it theirs. I'm still ticked off about that one.

Unclaimed for 100 days, so now the girlfriend has a new watch.

The seal looks like it needs replacing and the movement looks like it could do with a clean.
However, she is pretty happy.
