Replace the back or not ?

Some advice please - in fact 2 pieces of advice.

I have recently bought a Speedy reference 3592.50.00 Hesalite sandwich. It has a card and serial number that would date it to 1996. However it has the later 1863 movement.

However studying the back almost all the text running around the sapphire glass has been rubbed off. So, question 1) should I replace the back? £340 + tax or leave it as is? And secondly which of the 2 backs used around this time is the correct one?

I would just leave it as is - that is the original back and is a testament to the life the watch has lived. Besides, it’s not like you will even notice the difference under most circumstances.

I suppose it's a matter of personal preference.

Here's my thoughts: I NEVER look at the case back of my watches. I couldn't tell you which of my speedmasters have a display case back even.

All that to say, the display text would be absolutely irrelevant to me.

As far as your question: The few I found photos of seem to show the text from the 2nd above.

Thanks Donn. That's true but if I want to sell it at a later date, don't you think condition might hold it back?

Sure, but IF you find that to be the case, just buy a caseback at that point. In the meantime, I'd just save the money.

That said, the amount it would reduce in price is probably less than the cost of the case back, since there will be some folks who don't care.

Yes, but will it be available then...AND which of the case backs is correct for the watch?

Omega will have back stock for decades. BUT, I believe the 2nd(as I said above) you posted is the correct one, if you wanted to get it and put it on a shelf.

That said, you'll spend more on the case back than it will increase the value of the watch, so I'd only do it if it mattered to you.
