Please use your beautiful example and not just masturbate with it as others do with his collection. Thanks
What does it matter what ones motives are for collecting. I don't see a problem if one chooses to "masturbate with his collection", not my preference but each to their own. My watches are mine and I can choose to do what I want with them. Since my collection is predominantly old Speedys I don't think masturbating over them would be a wise choice as they are not waterproof at best.

What a ridiculous statement. Rant over.

I think he means literally, as the early stretch bracelet could cause severe irritation, damage and possible injury requiring medical attention. We have a few medical professionals on this site that have seen first hand what can happen when a gentleman becomes too involved with his watch (typically a Hublot) don't become an emergency room statistic, practice save horology.

C'mon man this is a metaphor, obviously you're not going to do that on your precious Speedys.

I think Concorde meant intellectual self stimulation.

Wouldn't worry touch about the bracelet when you have a watch like this. Maybe it's as some as the original owner didn't like the original or broke it and bought a new one.

In any event, congratulations.

Thanks guys.

I'll keep an eye out for a reasonable 7077 (not likely) or reevaluate the economics of buying one if I ever decide to sell. May not make sense even then. I would't wear it anyway; strap is preferable.

And yes, my working theory is that the original bracelet broke in performance of his demanding outdoor job. Even the replacement has a bent end link at the clasp.

Amazing! Love the way it aged. Was ABC reasonably priced? And what strap is that?

I would guess high. About what Rolex and JLC are starting at for my modern pieces. A first estimate from a shop nearer to me started at a bit over $400 but I didn't feel comfortable. He looked almost incredulous when I indicated I didn't want it polished. The ABC guys knew exactly what I had and understood completely my preservation goals. So I accepted their higher starting point (plus parts).

Strap is Rover Haven. (Natural Horween shell)

Additional closeup just to document interesting bits:

I love that shot, nicely captures the Mercedes crown, BASE1000 bezel and chocolate dial
