Anyone bid on this one with me? I know we hunt the same waters sometime. I figured since this WASNT listed in here, it was being watched closely. I chase these rare dial devilles almost exclusively. I always wonder if I find a gem on ebay or yahoo.japan if I should share it or not, I don't want the competition haha

At over $1000, this gold-filled example with an engraved back/no hippocampus, no service history, is not too far from what solid 14k examples are selling for these days (one such example for sale in the sales forum). I鈥檝e never seen a SMD with this type of box, which even if original isn鈥檛 overly attractive IMO compared to the silver boxes that you typically see listed as original for the SMD.

Its not cheap for sure, quite a clean watch though, these presentation watches with non-hippocampus casebacks were being sold over a surprisingly long time period, this one is marked as '76 but I've even seen early 80's with a variety of boxes, they were likely the very last Cal 55x / 56x models sold.

I'd still rather have this for a grand than a soft-cased example in the 600-700s which isn't uncommon currently

Hard to say with this one if the case is covered in grime on and around the lugs and areas if there鈥檚 also some wear, likely a combination of both considering the condition of the strap. A newb considering a vintage Seamaster/SMD could find a nicer/less common/more sought after example for $1000 on OF.
