I've been the high bidder for a couple of days now, I guess other bidders are waiting for the last few seconds to show their hand.
Most of the action happens in the last minute,

eBay is considering a new process by which they will extend the auction 2 mins for any last minute bid, I don’t like it but I guess it ensures more profit to the platform so expect it to be implemented in the near future

I'm my own worst enemy, I like to get the bidding going early on, to ostensibly dust off the low-only bidders and help out the seller. I need to rethink my purchasing strategy, lol.

eBay will be testing this system for sports cards. My impression is that there is a far more established market for authenticated and graded cards, coins and comic books then there is for vintage watches.

However, I would expect a change in the bidding format for watches, perhaps as optional to certain sellers for an added fee, to be implemented within the next two years or so.

That seems to be the norm for other auction platforms (e.g. getbezel.com, Yahoo! Japan, etc.). It might take away some of eBay's "excitement," but I kind of think it makes sense. It obviously maximizes the platform's revenue by maximizing the sale price, but I like that it eliminates the "video game" vibe of trying to click the button at exactly the "right" time.
