That upper left lug looks awfully funky. I'd be worried...
I thought about it, and passed for just that reason.

Stop the presses!!

At 1775 USD it may be a bit pricey, may be due to the fact that it has the much sought after scalloped crown.

The only problem is that it is a 292 movement, and theoretically it should be a 294.

Considering it's a Longines, I don't know if that's a problem or a peculiarity.

It's a very early specimen - extremely late 1958 or very early 1959, so the 292 isn't a problem.. It's a presentation model (plain back instead of the gold fish medallion with green enamel) that nobody put an inscription on. Looks kosher to me.

Note duly taken. If I ever see one (that I am not taking), I will PM you first instead of telling the world,

No, sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough. I took note of it being your holy grail, not of your dibs.

Sadly, I did not buy it.

I thought it was a bit too expensive, and now I am regretting it already.

It's always the same shame.

No, I'm sorry I assumed... and hoped.

Others will come along, and hopefully, we'll both find one 馃榿..

Yeah, I saw that go up briefly and was working on something else at the moment. Next I checked back, it was gone. My dream is to one day walk into an old shop and see a perfect 294 just sitting there, neglected...

14K case, 22L movement, cool lugs... classic American 50's no-name Longines. These are what got me hooked on Longines. This one too expensive though. Can find good examples with 22L or 23Z(S) movements for 300-500 if you are persistent enough. This one appears to be in great shape though. Tons of complete 22L's out there (I assume due to cases being melted down, much like that poor opal-dial watch you posted recently), as well as parts, so no concerns about keeping them running. I blindly bought "6 Longines movements, all winding and setting fine" for $30 bucks once. 3 were 22L's with attached dials of all sorts!

Seems to me the price was amended since I posted the link ?
Is it just me or did it go up by 50%? If so, that seller's delusional. I wouldn't advise anyone in their right mind to buy it at this price.

Here's a 34mm automatic for $200 and accepting offers- it's got traces of wear but a nice, pure understated design - and I can see some lovely lume plots with a warm patina.

Another one that's not cheap but first class. I've never seen such a good rectangular 1930-1940s Longines available on the open market. Seller just lowered the price. Maybe it could be negotiated down a bit more. A word of caution though : this original mineral glass is fragile and its edges are so sharp it would be easy to damage. Great for a true Longines collection but I'd be afraid to wear it.

Newbie question.
Is that an old redial? Should it look more like this?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/131922454799

I believe that the one @Syrte has linked is a Swiss Dial, cased in Switzerland, while the one you have linked was cased in the USA. Both dials are original to the watch; just different markets, styles and calibres.

@Seiji if you're a newbie, certainly I'm much more of one.
However this is a thread where we're only supposed to post stuff we are 100 % confident is correct to be recommended to others. This is not a thread for questions, or questionable items. So if I posted, it's because I am 100% certain this is a beautiful, original Longines dial from the 1930s-1940s.
Of course I make mistakes and stand to be corrected if and when I do.
Regarding the other one you posted, please look up the thread about "Longines fonts and redials".
https://omegaforums.net/threads/longines-fonts-and-redials.33758/
I have queried Longines on the matter of various fonts and am in contact with their chief historian, will report when I have a bit more time.
Cheers,
S
