We have a regular here who's taking a run at it. There's a pretty wide margin on these. If two or more people want it, a bidding war can push the price too high.
Too rich for my blood, though I think the bidding has already surpassed the average market value for one with such a nasty dial. http://www.ebay.com/itm/251448946261?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

Is the 13zn many times more desirable than a 1948 Ch30 ? This auction, same year, similar serial, was well bid but finished at 1/3rd the price: http://www.ebay.com/itm/251457005275?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Cal 13ZN do command a significant price premium, but even most 30CHs make better prices than that. I think the discount was for the gold plated case. The winner of the 30CH did well IMO.
This must be a redial? Right? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251467262645?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network how can it look so nice. edit: ok it says so right in the auction "original dial restored during earlier service".
More often eBay-speak for redial is "Stunning black dial, signed (your favorite manufacturer), in mint condition," +/- the word "original."

Tony, I'm watching that and have an e-mail into Longines about it. The movement serial number dates the caliber 431 to around 1968 / 69 but the 16 million case serial number is post 1973 which would be 66xx territory. It's possible that St. Imier made this match but it's not very often you see a 4 or 5 year gap between case and movement serial numbers, especially after a manufacturer has switched to a different generation of the caliber in question.
Interesting, Dennis – thanks for the info. To play devil's advocate, how likely is it that the seller was able to find all of those parts in that condition? And why would parts that are in such fine condition have been orphaned?
