The Rodmaster I hadn’t thought of- that’s very good.

I remember fishing with my uncle when I was like 6? He had me baiting the hooks and made sure to tell me I was the "Master Baiter" that day and to MAKE SURE that I told my mom when we got home.

Good times!

BassMaster
It’s sold- did you pick it up?

These are probably some of the nicest cases of the 60’s skin divers- 37ish mm across (the Goldilocks size for vintage divers) downturned and drilled lugs. You can always tell them by the profile and the flourishes on the back engraving

Oh- and they take 19mm straps. The Uncle seiko tropic 19’s are perfection and most of his 19mm bracelets fit the lug profile well with a little tweak (yay for hollow endlinks).

I have one with that same case - it's a "Jubilee" Skin Diver:

I got this one for around $75 shipped on ebay in 2020.

Oh for sure! Getting all stainless vintage mechanical/automatic divers for under a bill is definitely rare as a hen's tooth these days, but not absolutely impossible.

I think some people get hung up on the outliers when they think about watch value. You got a Jubilee (Longines) Skin diver for $75 so some immature collectors may think “I’ve seen them for $75 so I’m
not paying more than that!”. But we have also seen them sell for as high as $500
which is just silly- the actual “value” is probably about right in the middle.
I think it’s important to look at comps and find the median based on average condition. If you stumble across a steal- bully! If you find a flawless example being sold by a collector, be prepared to pay at the top of the range- maybe more if it’s truly spectacular. I try to follow comps as a reality check, but rarely get hung up on them if it’s something I truly want.

Wise advice. This and other hobbies can be really limiting for you if you get hung up on outliers, especially the lower ones. Experience will give you a feel of what things generally go for (median +/- deviations, exceptional up and down), and maturity will help with your purchases, buying, and selling too.

Wow, $75 is a great deal! Now I have an idea of what that bezel is supposed to look like, not that I'll mind the modern one. I already thought $165 was pretty reasonable, but I offered $130 anyway and it was accepted immediately. I'll report back when it arrives.

Too bad Bass-O-Matic was already taken. 😜

That would be a great name for a diving watch.

Now that’s a looker! Looks like it’s a ‘Swiss’ model, I’ve seen West Germany dials on most of these and then ‘France’ on the case back. An international endeavor! There are a few on eBay right now, but I’m not sure that they are recommendable.

Nice gold filled Omega cal 550, with a cool Nabisco branded dial and engraving on back. This watch has a story to tell. Looks all original and in nice shape. Price isn't crazy and seller accepts offers.

This is gone. Did someone here buy this?

Loving all these co-branded/award watches that have been coming up lately (Nabisco, Conoco, etc). Wish this trend was still a thing today.

Back in 2008, we were told that our organization would be undergoing a 20% reduction in force (RIF is the word of death in government). That Christmas- at our somber cookies and punch event (which we had to chip in for and had mandatory attendance) the director gleefully handed out engraved brass name badges with our names and the agency logo on it- to be worn when we were out interacting with the public.
All of us stood there holding these things in silence thinking…how many salaries did these engraved name badges cost?

Times have changed.

I bet they never had to do any of that crap at the NSA. Although maybe I'm wrong. I used to have an NSA frisbee that I got at a college job fair 20+ years ago.

Funny you mention that- part of why we were having a RIF was because they were adding positions to the DHS which was newly created after 9/11 by taking positions from other “less important” government agencies and folding in existing intelligence bodies.
Rather than create too many new FTE’s (and give the appearance of inflating the size of the federal government), they simply stole them from other agencies by shrinking the workforce or closing positions after retirements.
It’s all a wonderful shell game where people aren’t part of the consideration.

It's the reality of working in the DMV; gov't jobs and all the contractors/sub-contractors. Life is great for everyone when that big contract is being worked but things can get hairy when funding dries up and the RIFs/VRIFs (voluntary) start. You'll see people move around to where the work is, often switching jobs.

On a less serious note, here's a watch pic. Thanks @JwRosenthal for the nudge on this one, it arrived last night. Threw it on a strap and am wearing it today. It's actually in pretty good shape; case is super sharp. Squint hard enough and it almost has a vintage Bathyscaphe vibe.

Love the bezel on that, it’s actually a little chunkier than the factory bezel which I like. Nice score.

I actually like the bezel on that better than the badly faded bakelite bezel on mine
