·I picked this up for $200 a few days ago as my first vintage watch. Just wanted to say thanks for all the info on this page and I hope to add to the collection soon.
If you intend to wear the watch as a daily timepiece - and why not? - we generally recommend that you first take it to your local independent watchmaker and ask for a "clean, oil, adjust" service. The watchmaker will disassemble and inspect the watch movement, repair or replace the broken bits (if any), clean and lubricate the movement, and reassemble and adjust the watch for reliable timekeeping. Make sure you specify a hand-polish-only of the case (or no polish at all), lest they take it to a polishing wheel thinking you might want something shiny.
