That is because the dressy 60s and 70s Seiko watches are a secret gold mine of bargain watches. The divers and chronos have taken off, but the dress watches have not yet.

You know it. That's why the nucleus of my collection are dress watches. I'm a graphic designer so thoughtful aesthetic of the 1950s-1970s is appealing. And the movements of that era tell an equally fascinating tale before "the dark days" pulsed out.

Since we are on the theme of single crown compressors- I got an unsolicited offer from this guy- nice looking watch- don’t know how it is for pricing as I don’t follow these - but if anyone is interested...

Same dial as the 666 Snorkel without diver bezel. Looks like lots of lume shed on the dial- may clean up, may not - comes with a timex too. Wrong crown - a gamble. BADBD68F-79EF-44F2-AAF5-D6EC9614DADF.png

I am a big fan of this thread. Even though I am not very active on this forum, I’ve read every single page of this thread. And thanks to that, I have two Technos Sky Lights on their way... will post pics once they’re here.

My first listing to share is this one, a very cool, screwback Ernest Borel with railroad style dial. Looks very clean.

In the past I used to grab any of these I saw and used a mail forwarding company in the US to ship to me in Australia. After being let down a few too many times by these forwarders I now try not to look at US eBay.

Check out this 70's chunkPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network, hate the design of the case and maybe the original owner did too because it looks unworn, but what a wild dial!

Late 60’s SS Benrus Voyager. This thing has seen better days, dial may clean up a bit and seller says runs when shaken and that’s as far as he tested. Needs a proper crown and possibly a crystal but that’s no biggie. I thought it was missing the bezel but from other pics I found it may just be a fairly flat bezel- not sure.

Should look like this when cleaned up (this is another watch- not the one for sale).

The watch looks to have collected a lot of gunk but at this price it should be an instant buy. It should clean up to be a stunner.

I saw this one this morning and took a gamble because of the price. Seller says it doesn’t run so will need service but what do you guys think?

Unusual looking watch and if it’s a dog you’re hardly likely to be out on the streets. Think of it like you dropped $20 in the street. It happens. Someone picks it up and it makes their day. Not sure I would send it for a deluxe service, just someone who can give it a basic and get it running reliably.

I’m nervous about them on eBay. I like Seiko a lot but so many end up being messed about with and I’m not knowledgable enough to tell the difference so I tend to ignore them apart from particular models that I’m prepared to research. Currently that includes 4005 Bellmatics which I keep half an eye on.

I agree. This one could be ok as it comes from an obvious collector. The one problem is that I've read the 5606 quickset day/date has a fatal flaw in which a part made of plastic (go figure) can easily break.

For our Technos cult :whistling: or for anyone in the UK. Manual of course and gold plated. Brushing is quite nice. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254749029059Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

    Certainly a good looking watch.
Found one that sold on WUS in January 2019 for $175
