That's what I was figuring, so thanks for the confirmation Yoda! I'm intrigued...might need to do a little digging to learn more. These seem to be an engineering marvel that I need to explore a bit more.

Side note: It's precisely the testing, engineering, etc. that went in to the Speedmaster that tipped me over the edge to invest my hard earned cash in watches...has been a slippery slope since, and I have accumulated far more than I would have ever dreamed possible since.
Accutrons were in the space programs, CIA spy planes, and soon, your wrist. Welcome to the rabbit hole...

Calling all Bulova Accutron experts! I have just begun my journey of research, but I'm impressed by what I'm finding so far...question is...is this a good value, fitting for the condition, or am I off base? Previous posts indicate this is a reputable seller, and they seem to have a large inventory of very nice condition pieces. Jump, or beware?

An interesting read if you, like I, are new to these. I do know, if they need work, you'd better track down the right watchmaker with specific skills, so these come with a certain amount of responsibility (aka 'stewardship') if you wish to keep them operational for the long haul.

What about this bad boy as an alternative? ::psy::::psy::

Just my view but you could expand your horizons from the Accutron and extend it to all the tuning fork watches. Very few fakes, as there’s not a lot of cache in the type, incredible timepieces and for the modest collector something a little different to the usual throng of Omega Speedmasters, Breitling Navitimers. Neither of the latter for instance I could contemplate buying because I’d never know if I was buying genuine. My smattering of hummers though are the real deal.
Service wise the two names that come up are the electric watch co in the UK and Rob Berkavicius in Thailand. Not sure who you’d approach in the US. I’m sure our learned contributors might know someone

@Gav1967 - That's some '70's funk if I've ever seen some
@SadKen - Win's the internet for the day (and I'm now cleaning a spray of coffee from my monitor and laptop)
@Pianotuna - I hear @Canuck may be the North American go-to for these

Nice little Mido with a great dial. This is the classic Taubert case for which they were known. It’s small at probably around 29-30mm- I wear mine on a bund which bulks it up. Seller say running and stops periodically- obviously due for a service- has make offer.

I have sent a watch to Rob Berkavicius from the US. He does top notch work and I highly recommend him, shipping internationally is a bit of a challenge, especially in the time of Covid. Send me a PM and I can give more details.

Not vintage but a good deal that is in the vintage vein:
2017 Timex Marlin on reissue Forstner Komfit. I checked it against my original Komfit- it’s the reissue. Still, buy the bracelet and get the watch for free.

So I found this on Ebay several months ago, and thought my story belonged here. I really loved the dial and that it was a vintage Stowa, albeit a Pallas/Stowa. I tried lowballing the seller in Bulgaria, since it was missing the 2 o’clock marker, but settled about $200. I’m a sucker for a quarter dial, and this one has a sunburst/degradé that goes from a grey to blue, to a bright blue center sphere depending on the light. It also has a rotating bezel but no insert. For the missing hour marker, I found a vintage Pallas/Stowa parts watch that appeared to have similar indicators, again in Bulgaria.

After sending both to my watchmaker, he moved the 12 o'clock marker to 2, and used the spare as the new 12, and just satin polished the bezel to smooth out the discolored insert. Turns out the Lorsa P75A movement had actually been serviced, so he just regulated that. All for about $75.

So after throwing on a Stowa strap, I’ve got a 37.5mm watch that I’m so glad I rolled the dice on.

Here’s the before, and a few after shots:

and after...

Stunning Gold Filled Hamilton Electric. Seller says running, but of course- could probably use a service at some point. Looks correct except for crown which is a replacement, but the space-age H crowns pop up on eBay regularly and it doesn’t effect the wearability.

Bums with expensive tastes!
It takes sacrifices.

No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound
Nothing to eat, no books to read
Sometimes all I need is the air that I breathe, a free wifi zone and that 'next watch' hunt

Apologies to Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood

@dougwhiz
Love your Stowa and admire your vision and commitment to achieving that broken winged duckling to swan turnaround. 👍

Chrome plated Buler Seaflower. If a 1603, matte dialed sub and Helbros diver had a three way- this would be the love child. Plating is a little rough on the side and back, crown needs replacement- but it’s actually not that bad (very wearable). Dial, hands. and engine turned bezel are awesome and should clean up beautifully- and it has a red date wheel (most likely slow-set, be forewarned). I would be tempted to see if this would transplant into another stainless case...would be a neat project.

One of my favorite songs of all time. Can’t help but sing it at the top of my lungs when I hear it and weep a little.
