Hi OF

Im travelling Japan at the moment and came across a watch i‘ve never seen before.
Maybe you guys know something about it…
It looks like a 14381 and is goldcaped.
Asking price was around CHF 5‘000, which was way too high for me so i didnt consider buying it.
I am sorry for not taking more pictures of it but there were so many watches…and i was quite in a hurry sadly.

More than curious what your thoughts are.

Thanks OF and greetings from Japan
Brian

I love that, what a shame it is priced so high, but it certainly warrants a decent premium over a less interesting dial.

Interesting watch @WatchHeaven44 - thank you for posting 👍

It really is like the Seamaster that @tapaptpat linked to.

The indices on both are really odd.
I was looking to see if it was possibly a gold dial and had 'flat' onyx inserts - however, they both appear to be 'filled' with black 'stuff'. (paint?)

On the Seamaster some of it is missing, on the Connie some of it is flat or even concave.

Whoever designed the dial, they certainly set a challenge for the dial printers.

BTW I personally think the price is ridiculous.
The watch has a decent gold-capped case and a really interesting dial but the dial only adds a couple of/few hundred to an ordinary gold capped 14381, which means it really should be no higher than something like $1500.
The asking price is Somlo money (for those with large disposable incomes)

Still great to see it all the same.

you guys 100% sure the dial is legit? some how the text look misaligned to me, the ‘Constellation’ is not parallel w the line. Just my opinion.

You're absolutely right it is slightly off - it could be a Seamaster redialed as a Constellation. (it did cross my mind)
But we do know that there were some exotic dialled Omegas sold into the Far East - and this could easily include this as a special order Connie.

The font is pretty good if it is a redial.
The real test would to be know what is under the hood - but as the OP hasn't got additional information I guess we'll never know.

I'll stake my reputation* on it being correct and original. The rather more lived in one above adds weight to this. Note the Connie text is slightly on the wonk there too.

*I have no reputation to stake, well not as a reliable watch expert anyhow!

So this one sold on eBay 4 days ago for $675, a far cry from 5000 chf.

That is very interesting in that despite the seller annoyingly not showing the inner caseback, we now know it uses the 551 movement, which dates it to circa 1960-62 rather than any earlier and also has a bona fide chronometer certified movement and observatory caseback, showing that these are very very unlikely to be messed about Seamaster models. The movement date tallies with the dial style language used. Those stick indices and 2 line dial are only used at the very end of the tonneau lug Connie lifetime in the early 60s.

The link that @dsio shared has inside caseback as image number 7 showing 14381 11 SC.
Do you mean it should have a inner movement protector?

Cheers

Textured dials just never get old... Some of the fonts looking off though. Still love it!

Indeed it does. Silly me, was looking at the listing in the eBay app which makes viewing the pics harder and I missed it. Has a serial pic too showing early 18s again suggests it is a very late tonneau, 1961 maybe? I’d be very worried to see that type of dial on a 1957 504 movement model, but in ‘61 it looks more plausible.

I found at least 5 examples with this dial pattern in the constellation, but only my watch in the seamaster.
