Railmaster Alteration ~ Opinions Sought:

Let us not forget, not a single original Railmaster in any shop in the year 1957 had this hue for its lume. In essence, I am taking a beast of watch (meant in the best way: the materials and movement are so much better than what Omega had at their disposal in 1957) and visually returning it back to whence forth it first came.

I would go for it if I was 100% sure that the result would be like it was done by Omega. I had a watch relumed once and I could see all the imperfections a hand applied lume has. So first find the right relumer, if there is one out there, and then hell yes go for it.

I think it would work if you could get the lume to look like the same colour as the text/numbers. I think a brilliant white would just be to in your face and not look right on the matte dial. My concern is not for the value of the watch but if the finish doesn’t look factory finished, over time it will prove annoying when looking down at it.

I don’t see this modification as any different to the people who have brushed the bracelet completely.

I also think if you’d done it quietly and done it well then posted pictures, people would have said ‘oh that looks great’.

Why not just buy one of the many 2503 Railmasters out there? Pulls off the same aesthetic, white lume, similar size. And it's another watch you get to own.

No bueno for me... 36 is too pricey for what you're getting, 39 is affordable but wears huge, not vibing the exhibition caseback on a Railie, zero anti-magnetism and that cursed butterfly clasp ~ why put a dressy type clasp on a working man's watch?
Said differently, just because Chevrolet wrote Monte Carlo on a 2007 Monte Carlo doesn't make it a Monte Carlo.

I'm sticking with the '57 be it in factory Maxwell House coffee lume or relumed... but I do get what you're saying.

The 36 RM is still way cheaper than the RM Trilogy last I looked so I’m not sure that is true. I mentioned these earlier and you ignored them but you really shouldn’t. they are a better bet than a messed about trilogy. That other stuff you say about cars is literally just noise since we don’t have those models in Europe. I drive a 911 baby.

I didn't ignore them I'm just not into them.

Sorry to read you don't have cars in Europe, even though they pollute and create horrid urban sprawl - they are, on occasion, a necessary evil. Maybe someday soon?

Finding that someone is the crux.

Interesting thread. I haven’t heard of anyone wanting to re-lume such a new watch before.
The fauxtina is a bit over the top. If you are to keep the watch, as stated, then go for re-lume if that makes you happy. Be sure to post and update the forum about the results.

Late to the party here, but I totally get the desire to relume and get rid of that orange lume. In fact I was tempted to do the same thing myself, but I went with the 36mm 2503 Railmaster for the reasons mentioned above, plus one more -- it's a lot thinner than the newer models.

They can do the reluming?
I believe they were one of the early ones doing top-tier reluming, back in the day.

To OP: I’m with you 100%, and vote A. I don’t like the greenish hue on B. Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m disappointed in my 3861 lume. Color is fine, but intensity is lacking. Maybe I’ll follow your lead…
