I believe it’s Zardoz.

Correct.

And the choice of one or more unfortunate part choices does not undermine an impressive body of work in this case.

I don’t agree. If you embody a character in a number of BOND movies that is universally applauded, appreciated, and respected by both critics and fans alike, then your acting is stellar.

Edited for clarification for @Archer.

You didn't have to edit that for me mate. We are both entitled to our opinions. I don't believe he was a terrible actor, but I don't believe he was one of the true greats either. His acting was partially a product of his time. Some was good, some was not that good - like most actors.

Denzel Washington's acting abilities?
Just curious on your and other opinions.

Personally, I find him great.

@Pazzo, you raise an interesting issue: is our assessment of an actor completely subjective, and boils down to an opinion, as @Archer says, or there more “objective” criteria? Obviously, you can’t measure the distance of a hammer throw or see the winner of a race cross a finish line in acting, but neither can you in figure skating. So within the context of using people who are experts to assess performances that can’t be objectively assessed, I would say that all opinions are not equal, even though we are all entitled to them. In as much as Sean and Denzel have both won Academy awards, I would say you can disagree, but they are both great actors, whether you personally like them or not.

Academy awards are given out for specific performances, and are not generally a measure of an actor's entire career.

If you want to use the Academy awards as the benchmark, you need to explain why Shakespeare in Love won best picture...and how Paltrow won best actress...

Not “the” benchmark, but “a” benchmark. And I don’t need to explain anything, because that’s just my opinion, mate. Right?

Holy crap ... just add 4grams of 'shrooms ...

Some "truly great" acting in there. It was a comedy, right?

Do you understand what the word "if" means? But yes, you have your opinion and I have mine. Finally you seem to be getting it!

If you want to use Yardoz as “the” or “a” benchmark to assess or undermine Sean‘s accomplishments as an actor, then i hope you never screwed up anyone’s watch, because by that logic, that would make you a shitty watchmaker.

Not trying to 'interfere' in the 'banter' here folks ... I just am intrigued by 'odditiies' such as this 'Zardoz' (and in the same breath : cant wait to watch 'Borat2'!) ...

zardoz-2.jpg

And I quote (from Wikipedia):

"Thigh-high leather boots, crossed bandoliers and a pair of shorts that can be described as 'skimpy', the Brutals and Connery in particular exude raw masculinity, particularly as they ride their steeds and fire their guns."

Hillarious!

Also, it appears that Sir Sean (RIP, and thanks for all the amazing movies) had a hard time landing movies after Bond ...

"Reynolds had to pull out due to illness and was replaced by Connery.[11] "Connery had just stopped doing the Bond films and he wasn’t getting any jobs, so he came along and did it,"" ...

I could imagine the 'raw masculinity' of Burt Reynolds in this role too...

And I will say that, if every one of us was judged solely by our worse moments in life, we would all most certainly be deemed a bunch of good-for-nothing-shits...

Exactly.
