I heard that the hands of the Planet Ocean steel is made of white gold not rhodium-plated like my Seamaster. Does anyone know if this is the case or are they rhodium-plated like my Seamaster?

Who are "they"?
I’m pretty sure it’s Don.
The same guy told me Tylenol caused autism.

Thanks for the info. I have a second question if you could possible answer. They say Omega's bracelts come from China. Well some do. China has been known to use lower grade steel. Do you know if they use lower grade steel with watch bracelets?
Check out this thread:

I have now seen that many people that have ordered bracelet parts through Omega like clasp and links and the parts come in a package marked "made in China,or made in Thailand."

I've seen the same images you have, of Omega parts labelled 'made in China' or 'made in Thailand'. Not sure whether those images are real.

It wouldn't surprise me though - and it wouldn't bother me either. From the thread you linked - a watch can be called 'Swiss Made' if 60% of the production costs are generated in Switzerland.

They are 100% real, I ordered a deployant clasp direct from Omega in the past year and the packaging says TH - Thailand. I also ordered a tang buckle and it came from Italy. Doesn't bother me, they're Omega parts, Omega quality, and in the incredibly unlikely problem there was a quality issue, Omega warranted. The watches exceed the Swiss made requirements.

If it helps- I just ordered an SMP300 bracelet (current gen) at the end of August, and the packaging is marked "Italy." I know it's real because I ordered it through, and picked it up directly from, the Boutique.

It honestly does not concern me, but I have seen no real Omega Packaging marked "China."

My only concern is that China is known for sub par steel. I was just wondering it they put that in their watch bracelets also. For example Weber BBQ has moved some of there manufacturing to China and now you can see rust and corrosion on there stainless steel. However, Napoleon BBQ's does not get their steel from China, and they have no rust and corrosion.

You seem to be really concerned with this topic.
China is perfectly capable of producing high quality stainless steel, as well as steel of other grades/qualities.
The grade or quality of the steel to be used isn't left to the Chinese manufacturer to decide, it will be specified by the parent company for the brand of the product being produced.
I'm sure that Omega and other Swiss companies, as well as many other countries around the world who have items manufactured in China, will have specific requirements in their contracts/Ts&Cs/POs etc.

If the BBQ company you mentioned shifted production to China to reduce their manufacturing costs, I'd not be surprised if they did more cost cutting when specifying the materials to be used.

What @JimInOz said. Plus China produces half the worlds steel so we better get used to it. If a brand wants quality steel they have to pay for quality steel, unfortunately they sometimes dont and we get lower quality and they get rich.

It reminds me of when Japanese cars were introduced to the west. Alot of semi racist thing were said. Toyota could never make a car like say British Leyland, look at were those companies are today.

As far as weber is concerned, over the last THREE DECADES, I don't think that I have seen a Weber steel grill that hasn't suffered at least some corrosion, especially along the bottom/vents where heat and moisture are likely to meet.

The stainless steel used in those grills is hardly corrosion proof. Environment, and especially humidity, is going to play a huge role in how they age

I remember when I was working in Naval ship-building, a meeting with the client and one of the customer reps asked why some fittings couldn't be stainless steel as they wouldn't rust like ordinary steel items.

My boss (ex RAN Engineer of 25 years) replied "there's no such thing as rust free stainless steel, it may take some time, but eventually and in the right (or wrong) environment, all will eventually rust".

I don't know if this is gospel, but I suspect if something has "steel" in the name, it will eventually show signs of iron oxide.
