·Hello chaps. I have been staring at this watch for quite some time. I have a few ‘trench’ type watches but most of them are small (around 30-35mm diameter). I have a 1917 Zenith ‘Big Pilot’ which is the closest thing I have to a trench looking watch which also has a hefty 40mm diameter and is great to wear, clear to see and operates superbly. This ‘marksmen’ is a really excellent size for me. Dial looks great to me (don't mind the lack of sub seconds). Love its blackened case. But 1 jewel? From what Ive read briefly this implies the corrosion of the parts will occur quickly and that the watch will inevitably self destruct. I like to wear my old watches. I guess what I’m asking is: is the 1 jewel thing a deal breaker when it comes to buying watches? Would it mean I was basically buying a disposable watch? Are there modifications I cold make to it to increase its longevity? I feel as though I cant find conclusive information on this topic to inform my aesthetic attraction to this watch.
incidentally, I once read a thread on another forum where a distant relative of this small watch company ‘wuilleumier ‘ discovered evidence therein of his grandmas stories of their family having a watch company and I thought that was pretty cool to behold. Here is the link if anyone’s interested:
