Hi

I just received an Omega watch which i purchased online and i was a little disappointed because it seems that in the upper right side of the glass the AR coating seems it's gone..(in my opinion).
So the question is: that part it's gone or all the AR coating it's gone except that part..馃榾.
I am not sure if from some pictures you can tell that.
And i also have a second question regarding the hands of the watch..it seems that the lime on them it's newer compared with the rest of the dial..so there were replaced at some point? I hope with the right one?

Thank you Omega forum..

here are some pictures:

I would think that the upper right corner is the only one with some coating left as the dial behind it seems a little more clear than on the rest of the crystal.

Getting the hands replaced is indeed pretty common when getting a full service at Omega. It sure looks weird here as the newer ones have completely different lume (that will probably also stay white forever). But the hands themselves are the correct ones, impossible to tell if they are original Omega parts unless the service was done at an official Omega service center.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe these older Seamasters only had the AR coating on the underside of the crystal. In this case, there's nothing you can do yourself to remedy that situation.

And yes, your hands are service hands with luminova and not tritium. Whoever owned this before probably had them replaced at a service -- it allows you to approximately tell the time in the dark without having to fully replace the dial as well.

If you don't like the tritium tail & luminova hands look, your only good recourse is to have it serviced by Omega and get a service dial. They can replace the crystal as well. It'll be hard to find tritium hands for that watch.

Re the crystal, as noted above these are only internally coated, maybe the crystal got contaminated, a good clean by a watchmaker might sort it. If it is on the dial then that is not good news though.

There is a chance those are still tritium hands. Do they glow appreciably longer than the dial when you shine bright light on them? SL hand glow will last much longer than spent tritium. The hands on tritium SMPs never fade as beige as the dials. They usually look mismatched like that. Having said that by now the original second hand tips have usually faded to pale orange and that one is very red so it may well have a new SL hand set at some point.

Donn's right. The 2531 had AR coating only on the underside of the crystal.

The hands are correct for the 2531 model. Starting with the next generation (2220.80), the hands were elongated and extend further out than those on yours.

Thank you for all the replies ..yes i also think now that the only part which still has antireflective it's on the right side..I am thinking to try to remove it all to an watchmaker..
