Question on original straps and buckles for Pre Moon Speedys

There's a lot of info on vintage Speedy Bracelets for the different Vintage Speedmaster References, but I haven't been able to find a lot of info on straps and buckles at all.

If I had bought a 105.003, a 105.012 or a 145.012 in the 60s and I choose an Omega strap, what straps did they come on. How tapered were they? I'd expect 20mm tapering to 16mm but am only guessing. The buckles themselves must have been something like the 16mm buckles in this excellent thread. Anybody with more information on this?

Yes, I did use the search function, so don't shoot me please....馃槑 Anybody seen a NOS Speedy with its original strap??

Very much the same as any 18mm buckle in the old days, don鈥檛 think there was a difference for speedmasters.
Straps were 20 tapered to 18 IIRC

You can still buy them from Omega 馃槈

Thanks Standy, how do you know this is I may ask? Which vintage buckles were used? It seems the 1960s vintage 18mm buckles are extremely scarce, lots more 16mms around.

That's what I think too but I couldn't find it advertised in any old brochure like here on a leather strap at all. As a matter of fact the only ad I could find on any type of strap was this one:

A lot more 18 to 16 straps were made as that is what鈥檚 on millions of Seamasters and Constellations.
18mm are scarce because there wasn鈥檛 the collection point like nowadays. Tool watches the straps were thrown out and replaced with hundreds of aftermarket brands. In those days you just went to a jewellery shop and got a strap

By the 70s there was a heap of 20mm omega watches like chronostops and Omega chrono,s that had 18mm buckles.

I don鈥檛 but have seen a few over the years.

Even into 2000 a Speedmaster Professional came on a 20/16 when you bought a leather strap. It's only relatively recently that they changed to 20/18.

The bracelets tapered to 16mm as well.

Thanks SkunkPrince, that鈥檚 true! I鈥檝e seen relatively modern (1990s to 2000s) Speedys on 20/16 straps in ads although I can鈥檛 find one right now. So I鈥檓 sure they were all 20/16 in the 60s!

EDIT: Not so sure anymore that they were all 20/16. There are many original vintage Omega straps wich measure 20/14 like these:

I'm just going to wear my 105.012 on a 20/16 leather strap with a real vintage Buckle and call it a day!
