Some interesting UG straps and buckles

The first group of pics shows UG branded straps that I have never seen before, paired with tang buckles without any markings. These looks like 40s to me. This combination is similar to what I have seen on NOS TDMP I had from the 40s (except that one, the strap was not marked UG, and the buckle had some markings - BTE-PAT and staybrite).

The sizes are 20 to 14mm and 18 to 14mm, in both rose gold and SS buckles.

Following that is a stitched black 16mm to 14mm with U shield logo.

After that is a brown suede 20mm to 12mm with U logo buckle. I have not seen this taper before (to 12mm).

After that are more brown suede in 19 to 12mm with both U shield and Fat U logos, otherwise identical.

I got a bunch of these straps from @olivierw and my understanding is everything came from an older gentlemen who used to be a large UG retailer.

Anyhow wanted to share them with the forum. I thought they were really cool....

Pretty heavy tapers on these watches from 1972:

I bought a NOS Universal Strap from the 1970’s for the plated buckle. The strap itself was 18mm to 12mm. I have the buckle paired with a 1950’s Polerouter Jet that goes from 19mm to 12mm on an older Bulova branded strap.

My brother-in-law has his father’s Uni-Compax from around 1950. He has the original strap and buckle with I believe are similar to the first ones shown above. At least the buckle is not signed.

Good stuff!

do you know if the strap on your brother in laws Uni Compax is signed or not? This is first time I have seen this type of UG signature on a strap.

This is really cool! thanks for sharing @bgrisso
I kinda like the heavy tapered straps, too bad not many are made these days. Unless you go custom

I don’t know. It was pretty worn the last time I saw it. If it was signed in gold-leaf, there’s a good chance the signature is gone.

Haven’t been buying watches for a while, but some how the strap / buckle exemption went a little overboard 😗

Very nice. Is that a maker’s mark stamped at the top end of the longer piece? Have you seen that before?

I'm not sure, was wondering the same thing. Also interesting is this example has the UG stamping straight, and the examples I posted, it's curved. Anyhow, not a lot of documentation exists, but good to compile info as we get it.....
