I have nothing to add that you don't already know about this model.
It is the nicest speedmaster I have ever seen. Best of luck whatever you decide to do with it.

Amazing Speedmaster, one of cleanest examples of this reference I've seen. As an alternative to consigning it to an auction house, some high profile watch dealers may want to sell it for you as well. HQ Milton comes to mind for this type of sale. Good luck with it!

good one ! and, yes, not issued. just a private purchase from the exchange. if you want to go auction house, only Phillips in Geneva will do. forget the other ones. and be quick, the deadline for the next auction is approaching now. otherwise go for the end of year auction. good luck ! kind regards. achim

i disagree with this. amongst collectors i know, there have been enough issues with Phillips of late that people are starting to sit on their hands (witness the recent Heuer sale). not saying they don't get very high prices (they do!) or they don't have some very very great watches (they also do) but if it were my watch i'd call john reardon at christies

look, as always, we all have opinions. i`ve sold with the big auction houses over many years. they all have big issues........ as a seller you are not interested in the nice persons in these big watch auction houses. you auction, where the representation is flawless ,and most of all, where the buyers with deep pockets go. and it is clear, where they are. kind regards. achim

agree. . . .i am not actually sure if you look at the #s that Philips has done the best with Speedmasters like this one. I believe Christie's are the leader there, they held the only Omega dedicated auction and have achieved consistently high prices for the best Speedmasters since then. I think if you go look at the last Philips auction you will find spectacular prices on a few pieces and a lot of pieces that did not blow out the #s. Its my 2 cents that the parade of questionable watches is taking a toll. If I had a Speedmaster like this I'd give it to Christie's but to each his own and you cannot go wrong with either house

Now as for the suggestion to take a piece like this to WoK or HQ Milton. . I mean. . come on people

Even the pusher tubes look clean/unused. Would love to see this under a geiger, if its as high as it should be this will be one of the most immaculate 2998's ever. Regarding the 100k one that sold, that had a chocolate dial no? The lemming hoards tend to jump off the chocolate dial cliff, but when it comes to spending hard-earned cabbage I prefer dials without any damage (like this)...

It is original vintage radium, no doubt. Do I really have to buy a Geiger counter to prove this? 馃槙

Obviously yes. At least just before I really decide to sell this watch. 馃槈

Yup. Or make a new watchnerd-buddy who has one ... I am sure there are a few folk here who would absolutely bring you over their geigers just to have a look at your lovely watches...

Don't want to sound like a dick, but if you're trying to sell a 100k watch, buying a 100$ piece of equipment to reassure the potential buyer shouldn't be too much of an issue 馃槈

Well, so far, I can just think along... 馃槈

But my original question was not whether it was actually radium, but what the price would be for a watch like that, stating that it's in original condition.

And now we're talking about the authenticity of the watch instead. 馃槙

HQM are fine people but not used to flying in this rare air.

Need to confirm the Geiger reading (although that doesn鈥檛 make it 100% as re lumers are perfectly capable of mixing up old material. The fact is that the rest of the watch is so good that I don鈥檛 think that will stop a good result at auction.

You have to go with a grown up auction house with international reputation and exposure. Also a house that supports the reproduction of its sales pictures to allow open and frank discussion. So that puts Watches Of Knightsbridge out.

At the moment my vote is Phillips.

As to future value vs today? If anyone gives an opinion on that they are risking looking a bit foolish. But not as bad as John Mcaffe if Bitcoin doesn鈥檛 hit $1m by 2020.

And of course people are discussing the lume. It is too good to be true, as is the paint on lollipop - so you have to prove them wrong or put up with the doubt.
