I stumbled onto one as my first vintage Omega. It'll be the last watch I ever sell. Either to give to my newborn son or to pay for that first year of Harvard 馃槈

Keep it for that long and either it will pay for his whole education at Harvard, or not, depending on how the market goes :-D

Absolutely! If the market turns, just a good excuse to keep for myself 馃榾 I'll give him my white gold one instead.

As promised, I would get back with more pictures. I have seen the watch in person this afternoon and have taken some pics. It runs fine and think it only needs some cleaning and servicing but not much more. The bezel which wasn't well aligned is already corrected (difference between first and last picture). The watch comes from a 69 year old person who has had it for little over 20 years. I spent all afternoon at his home and can confirm he knows what he's selling. I would categorise him as a 1 percenter. In his turn he bought it over 20 years ago from an even older person located in France, who died meanwhile, but cannot confirm whether he was the first owner or not. In other words, the seller is reliable but the full provenance is not there and neither are box or papers.
Guys tell me what you think as I have already shaken hands on this one. The watch is in my possession but I haven't wired the money yet....

Sorry for the poor quality pics. I have to admit I was a little excited and my hands were not too stable when I took them with my phone camera.

Don't be easy on me, I rather hear the naked truth!

It is hard to evaluate without knowing the price.

The condition is not that great, the bezel is dinged and the case is pretty polished.

If I was a watch investor I would not buy this watch.

I am a watch fanatic and if I was about 25 years older and the price was right I would wear this as my daily beater.

Thank you for the feedback. As you correctly state, fair evaluation is relevant to the price. The bezel shows indeed wear but luckily it is a DON of 50 years old. I have seen far worse on pictures (never saw a similar watch in real life). You say the case is pretty polished. Is there a standard existing to express the level of case condition? Like a 0 is totally untouched and a 10 would mean totally distorted? How would you rate the case on such imaginary scale?
The watch was regularly worn and I honestly prefer this fair condition to a completely restored example where it is hard to trace what exactly has been done (or not).
I'm not an investor, rather a real amateur with plenty love for the Speedmaster and in my (limited) experience this is a rather special one.

If the price is right, buy it. You may not find another for quite some time.

I think the condition is pretty decent. Bezel overall is pretty nice minus the one blemish. I鈥檝e seen far worse. As stated above, these are coming up less and less for higher and higher prices so I wouldn鈥檛 worry!

For a gold watch, I don't think the case is terrible by any means. I hate polished cases, it's a deal breaker for me and matters almost as much as the dial and I could live with this.

Lack of box/papers and condition of the bezel obviously affects value.

What are you paying?

South of $20k. Hard to estimate current market value. Prices vary dramatically because this one has become very scarce I believe?

2 years ago that would have been strong for it. Today it's probably 1/2 - 2/3 market value.

Yes, well I am confident I did not pay too much (deal is done, seller is paid and watch is in my possesion). The seller was not looking for top money, he was happy to see the watch departing to a real watch fan.
