So, I don't think $15,000 for a decent version is very off price wise. But I am really not an expert. Obviously, most important part is finding a willing seller of course.

It’s 2018 folks.

In 2017 one of these fetched around $35k at auction. Last meet up I went to one traded privately for about $30k. Given these were all original with great dials and bezels. William sold one last year for round $25k (if you do your own homework and search this forum). From what I recall it may have had some service parts. That’s just from memory. There are not that many of these, they are thus a sellers market.

Hi all.

Newbie but avid watch collector and fan.

My father has a 1969 model that he’s looking to sell. What sort of price can he expect. His watch was once sold at Christie’s

Dear OF members. This watch was offered to me today via a business relation. I will get a close and personal view on Wednesday, and probably be able to take some descent pictures. The seller claims to be first owner (his father) but many do so and I didn't have a chance to verify any part of his story yet. Although the two attached pictures I received so far are of poor quality, the watch looks in descent condition. Meanwhile any first reactions are more than welcome. Is there anything in particular I should check when examining this watch that may heavily influence its value? Does any of you recognise signs of (poor) restoration? View attachment 622975

Does your business relation know that these are worth quite a bit more than their weight in gold these days?

There was one a year or so ago, service dial, and bracelet that was in poor shape at best. If memory serves correct, I'm think the ask was under $15k. Could have been $12k.

Don't wear this much any more as every time I do another bit of the burgundy on the bezel seems to flake off.

He is aware this is a valuable piece but he may be in need of some cash. We have been introduced by a mutual business relation that I know since over 15 years as a trustful person. But the latter is not into watches at all so I need to remain careful when evaluating that watch. Anyway, I’m invited at the sellers private place so I reckon he has nothing to hide. More pictures following tomorrow.
If anyone has some more advice on doing a good evaluation? I already read several articles on it, including Fratello and Speedmaster101.

And the box too. Almost rarer than the watch.

Quite a bit rarer than the watch, from my understanding.

Same. I have been searching for one for the better part of a year and am basically priced out at this point. I passed on multiples in the 30 range thinking they were expensive and now would buy those in a heart beat 🙁
