Pre-owned Speedmaster prices

Starting my quest for an older Speedy and noticed ref's with date complications often times have significantly lower selling prices. Is this simply based on the fact the demand for non-date ref's is higher, creating higher asking prices or is there something else I am not seeing?

Totally different movements. No space history (well no Moon history) different form factor etc.

It’s complicated. Very.

Look for a 1990s full size Speedmaster model, preferably before 1997 (introduction of Luminova).
(not the reduced version)
Most guys I know barely paid the equivalent of US $ 1200.00 for it in those days... and not every body is a Money Wolf, so You might find one for US $ 2500.00 ... but not on Chrono-24 as we all know 🤔

I think the days of any Speedmaster for $2500 unless it is an ABSOLUTE basket case are long behind us. The only way you might be able to do this is managing to get one off of ebay that is poorly listed. Even in 2016 when I bought mine, I got it for $2075 and that was a stupendous bargain.

Now if the OP were willing to go for a Speedmaster Professional Mark II, then he could probably get one for $2500 without much trouble. Maybe even a racing dial one.

If you manage to get a Speedy Pro for $2.5k today, it'll probably be one that requires you to put in at least $0.7-1.5k of work to get it in functional condition.
