I am looking into buying a X-33 Gen 1 from a local high end retailer. I was told it has been aesthetically refurbished, I do not know if was by their watchmaker or by Omega. The price that I was quoted was $2,500. Is this a fair market place value?

Some ideas.. should give you a sense of what they're selling for on forums.

Same approach on ebay (for Sold and Completed items) would also flesh it out.

Is it a full set - Missions Box, outer box, cards, microfibre cloth, both manuals?

On a strap, or on a bracelet?

Well worth finding out exactly what's been done - a full service from Omega, which includes a new movement, hands, all seals, pushers is £380 - and comes with a 2 year warranty.

Have they "refurbished" it to the point where the caseback and bracelet clasp are now smooth? ;)

$2500 would probably be top end for a very very good MK1.

It has been serviced by Omega and comes with a two year warranty. That being said it does not have extra links, or the original box. It is on a bracelet.

Does seem high to be honest - from what I've seen, that's edging into 2nd Gen territory.

It might be worth talking to @Kringkily or @malkav as I think they have both sold X-33s recently, and may be able to source you one at a better price.

Ahh that's the one I was looking for but couldn't find - X33/X-33 is too short to use as a search term...

I'm not sure I'd agree with you about the crown being "much less usable", the Gen2 forwards crown is an improvement... but that tends to be how progression of a design works. ;)

    Horses for courses though.

No that's very fair. And I haven't lived with either just played around with one so I'm probably making too big a deal of the crown differences. I have the X-33 Skywalker which I absolutely love - it opened my eyes to how amazing the quartz/analog can be and now I've been contemplating moving back into the lineage. I gather the gen1/2 are way brighter almost mini flashlight style and I love the hands.

I recently bought a Gen 1, and am now sorely tempted by a Skywalker... I just don't have the funds to pay for it! :)

My Gen1 is in need of a service... the glow is very, very dim - and that's with a new battery in. Thankfully the service includes a complete movement, so I'm looking forward to the Glow upon return! :)

    Speak of the devil...

I would say that $2500 seems like a fairly unrealistic expectation at this time for this model, even with an Omega service warranty.

Maybe if it was in extraordinary condition it might fetch that price but, no box and accessories would be disappointing.

Movement version would make a difference to price so, worth asking about as the upgraded 1666D movement is thermocompensated.

Ultimately though, it is being sold at a brick and mortar store so they have to pay their bills somehow.

And yes I do have a Gen 1 on sale just now. @nickw mentioned it in his post. You should check it out.

    Thank you for the link.....

I saw this Skywalker Gen on the page:

Just curious....is it worth buying from an online store like Jomashop to save ~$1-2k+? Do you get something buying direct from an Omega boutique that is worth the extra $1-2k? Am I missing something though?

You get the warranty... But given that the service on this is replacement of all the internals, I'm not sure how much that matters...

I found my Skywalker via an AD at a considerable discount. It doesn't seem like they have been enormously popular it took them about a month to source one. I was only the second person to buy one via the AD. I see the solar impulse LE come up for second hand sale a lot but not the 'standard' version. Being able to run 3 countdown alarms is extremely handy at times and I love MET for tracking big milestones. The only thing I sometimes wish it had was a way to swap time zone 1 and time zone 2 but that would likely ultimately have been too confusing. Such a great travel watch! Highly recommended I cs't imagine parting with mine.

If you have an iPad the interactive X-33 Skywalker app that omega published as half marketing half manual is really fun to play with. It is what sucked me in to ordering one:

The guys in the boutique near me say that they're the easiest watch to sell, but also the watch they sell the least.

People that want them have done a ton of research, walk straight in, ask, try on, pay, leave.

But no one ever comes in and try one on for fun... Like they do with the more shiny stuff.

Seems to be a legitimate tool watch for a specialist audience.

Just to clarify, there is no D version of the Cal. 1666. The two movements used in the generally available X-33's were the A and the C (the B was a special version). The C is the version that is current and is the replacement movement that would be installed at service, and yes it is thermo compensated.

    Cheers, Al

I think that's more expensive than a service... which includes a new movement...
