PO's are thick AF!
Thicker by like 1mm versus the Diver 300M, and if it's 39mm or 40mm, it's going to be thinner. No date or solid caseback? Even thinner!

300mt vs 600mt, does it mean something?

Planet Ocean is 600 meter depth rated vs 300m for the diver 300.

Maybe I’m right about two different sizes. Or they’ll release a 200k Canopus gold model again that no one will buy

I wish this were affordable to some degree. Awesome watch.

I’ve resisted speculating on watch this new watch might be until now, but I thought I’d put my thoughts out here because they are quite different than any others I have seen.

I think they will introduce this watch as a cheaper alternative to the standard Omega Seamaster 300m, to better compete in the price range of the Tudor Black Bay (which is now about $1500 cheaper). It will be marketed as the Omega Seamaster Classic, will utilize the older model’s 41mm case and, old-style wave dial, painted and printed dial with no metal surrounds, and an aluminum bezel insert. In other words, trying to make it visually appear as close to the original 90s Seamaster Pro as possible. Might not even make it METAS certified, just a regular chronometer.

That would be sufficient “non-luxurious” materials (no ceramic, no METAS cert, no bling metal surrounds) to justify a lower price AND separate it from the current model (which would start to be priced a little higher). And the only colors I would expect would be classic blue and black. They’d keep the more colorful variations for the newer model. Heck, they might even go back to the cal. 2500D.

Frankly, if they did all this, I might be tempted to buy one.

Thoughts?

What the others said about Omega not moving downwards and not wanting to consider Tudor a rival, but also...
Omega doesn't use ceramic vs aluminum to denote a higher or lower price point. Some of the gold 3861s have aluminum bezels. The 60th is also aluminum dial + bezel with a higher price tag than the SMPs. Releasing this new watch as a budget version also doesnt make sense when it looks like the NTTD and 60th which were both more expensive than the standard SMP.

Finally, I think Omega committed a while ago to only release new watches with METAS.

I tried that on before, its a great watch. Liked it a lot more in person than I thought it would. I know the NYC OB has sold some of these. There are definitely buyers for pieces like that.

There will inevitably be a new PO variant along at some point but I think it’s pretty clear from the shots in the first post that this watch is not one and is simply another SMP variant.

I still think this is better than the rainbow Daytona, too bad they only made 300 or so and in no way have money for one haha, it grew on me I think. I just wanted to see the gold mesh Canopus in person.

Oh, it’s gorgeous in person, probably one of the best Seamasters I’ve seen. Just no way I’d be able to afford that lol. I’d even give the domed crystal a pass, as critical as I am of it on the diver. .

Put my name on the wait list with my AD. Was told more info at the end of the month to come. Black, seamaster, mesh bracelet. No other details

Isnt there a "throw up" emoji ? I`ll use this one 🛐 The "Dear God make it go away, it hurts my eyes and soul". I think it is appropriat for this be-jeweled crime against humanity.

But I am glad you like it and I am glad we have a choice to buy the things we like, but dont buy this. Give your money to charity instead.

Odd only because of the novelty, I suspect. With familiarity I think it would become a very welcome improvement.
You could be right, but I also think Omega wouldn’t remove it now.

I think that's what I like about the Seamaster heritage. Not sure that the professional Case and bezel design work that well without the Escape valve

It would end up resembling the 200m—with some updated sizing and contouring. I think it would look great. But, again, not expecting it to happen.
