Hi Guys
As mentioned on another threat, I have an option to replace my poor condition 220 bezel, with a good original DN90 bezel, image attached.
Can I get opinions on this?

thanks

Because it is your watch and both options are correct for your reference, it will be entirely up to you ? What do you want ?

I can’t decide, that’s the issue
Thanks

Ask yourself how homogenous a fresh bezel would look on a watch with a tired dial 😀

Yes, I'm bias toward 220 bezels, and your 220 bezel doesn't look too bad.
But as already been said: "It's entirely up to you. What do you want?" Afterall, you're the one wearing it.

If you like the 220 bezel but you're unhappy with the condition, I suggest that you patiently wait for a 220 bezel in better condition. Eventually one will show up.

I'd leave as is as the 220 bezel looks, in my opinion, fine.

But, for whatever reason, if it bothers you, then I'd wait for a better 220 bezel as Dan S previously suggested.

Thank you all for your opinions.

Hi Guys
I swapped the damaged 220 bezel for the DN90 the repairer gave him.
I kept the 220 as spare.
What do you think?

thanks

What I think:
it will be entirely up to you ? What do you want ?

If you really want MY opinion, as I dislike speedmasters I say "throw both bezels and the watch in the trash can". But I don't think you really want my opinion, you want me to validate your opinion. So I have to fall back on:
it will be entirely up to you ? What do you want ?

If I acquired this watch as it now stands, I'd be looking for a bezel closer to the condition of your 220. It has lost its overall cohesiveness with the newer looking bezel. You've overthought this.

Definitely looked better with original 220 in my opinion, do you have an extract ?
Personally always like to see originality so with a serial in the correct range (30.588.xxx-31.008.xxx late 1970) and a 220 bezel with matching condition to the dial would be what I would prefer in my collection.

I have learnt if you wanted a watch to have mint components buy the whole package with a watch that looks that way (but you tend then not want to wear them).

Hi MJR
It seems the 220 bezel was fitted on my watch sometime after.
My watch is a 29111550 reference, which doesn’t fit the 220 reference range.
So I suppose it is more original with the DN90 bezel
Thanks

It seems that this is a watch you wear. So putting a fresher and also appropriate bezel for the watch is fine since it's not a safe queen. I am guessing you don't intend to sell it you intend to wear it. After some time this bezel will look a little used and everything will be fine.

Both look fine to my eye, only the wearer will know the bezel has been changed and if he's happy that's all that matters. He's not going to run into any OF maniacs in public that are going to point him out in a crowd and say, 'that bezel doesn't match!'

With that serial number, your watch originally had a DON.

I thought DON was for the 321 movement only
My is a 861, manufactured in March 1970

If your 861 happens to be a 145.022-69 then a DON bezel is in play. Good for you 😀

Any Speedmaster Pro before about 30.5M would originally have had a DON, including 145.022-69 watches with cal 861. Yours is well within this serial range. After that range comes the error bezel, then DNN.

Here is my 2911xxxx. As you may know, this is a brown-dial range.
