    Hi Guys
I posted a few years ago
I have a speedy serial 29111550, with the bezel misprint
This doesn’t seem correct from all reports, but I have now identify 2 other owners with serial numbers in the 29500-29600 range?
One is selling on eBay at the moment

    Can anyone elaborate on this

    thanks

    Con Stoitsis

I think the serie is too low, should be around 30.5 mil. 2.91 mil is DON bezel territory.

This thread is a good resource:
    https://omegaforums.net/threads/bezel-misprint.23499/

This is the main conclusion from @speedy4ever (Author of MWO)

More important is to consider the production date. Of the several hundreds 145.022-69 we have in our database, the relationship between production date and bezel type is rather clear:
    - DON (type B1) until September/October 1970
    - 220 (type B2bis) from end August 1970 to end December 1970 (possibly until January 1971 with new data we had, still to be verified)
    - type B2 from November 1970

everybody can put a (cheaper than a DON) misprint bezel on a premoon Speedmaster and sell it on eBay. Doesn’t make it correct no matter how many do so :)

Referring to MWO it should have a DON bezel.

In my opinion I think that in the next year the ref 145.022-69 with the misprint bezels will increase in price.

Why would it? It's just another cal.861 Speedmaster with a very small oddity that has an explanation and is related to time frame. We do not know how many Speedmasters were produced with this odd bezel - and will probably never know - but it's quite safe to assume that there are hundreds out there. For sure not all of them are in great shape but I sincerely don't see anything that would make Speedmaster collectors to suddenly want one to the point that prices go through the roof.

Moreover, IMO, since the time frame is quite vague and it's difficult to be 100% accurate on saying this Speedmaster is a legit 220 and the other is not, real collectors will rather be careful with this variation and rather stay away, unless they like the oddity as such.

The prices of the DON speedmasters are very high. In my humble opinion and with the limited time frame of the misprint speedmasters, collectors will turn turn to it. It might be cool to have a Speedmaster with a 220 bezel misprinted by Omega while most bezels are normal.
I kind of compare it to the Rolex 16610 LV fat four Mark I. Even thought it’s not the same appeal as the fat four was produced in 2004 only, and corresponds to the 50 years of the submariner. You may have the same Rolex 16610 LV one with a fat four bezel and the other not and would find yourself with a 5k€ premium.....
Some times you have some oddities and you can’t explain!
I may be totally wrong but there is no ultimate truth!

And that's one good opportunity to outline that the premoon -69 is maybe the worst configuration ever. If the watch has a perfect DON, the head has almost the same intrinsic value as the bezel. ::facepalm2::

The value of the DON is related to the watches it fits and - unfortunately for those who don't have a watch from the upper range - it fits from 2998-3 down to 145.022-69. The value of that bezel is in line with the median value of the range it belongs to... If you need a DON for your 2998-4 you won't cry, if you need one perfect for your premoon -69, well... ::yawn::

I am not claiming I am right either, I only wrote my opinion in regards to your statement. Not every oddity ends up to become collectible and valuable :)

i would argue it's not intrinsic.. a bezel-less 145.022-69 can still tell time, a watchless DON bezel makes even a poor frisbee. ;)

your basic premise is spot on.

I could have bet big money on that ::bleh::

Don't panic, it's a great watch you have. Enjoy !;)

I wish I started hoarding frisbees much earlier :p

I think it's fair to compare Speedmasters with 220 bezels to Rolex 168000 Submariners like mine that were manufactured for only 9 months. Similar to Speedmasters with 220 Bezels these Triple Zero Subs have yet to garner the higher prices that they may some day reach because of their limited production run. As I like to say: Only "time" will tell :)

It’s actually because there are so many pre 69 watches that received a service and are missing the correct bezel. Hence the high demand and prices to make older more valueable watches correct. It’s not because one is considered better looking or rare. If rarity was the key then 220 misprints should be more valuable, heck if it was the Rolex world they would be worth 2x others.

I only wish that was the case as it's not regarding the value of my Rolex 168000 :(

?? My point was any small difference is immediately magnified in the Rolex world. It is so fetishized that for any small differences they might have, they are worth hugely magnified amounts. The 220 misprint, or the 74/early76 dial would be worth much more then the following parts which are infinitely more common. Sure we have the transitional and pre current NASA casebacks including the super rare NO - NASA, but why is the 220 not in the No NASA or SW range of price? At the very least it should be worth more then the DON in the 145.022-69 reference if we are being logical...

I think the value of DON is that they can used on earlier and much more expensive references.

"For sale at" or "sold at" twice the price?
