PO Newbie purchase and questions

Hey newbie here..馃榾

Just ordered my first high end watch. I purchased the watch at Chrono24. It was an Crono24 add so from them directly. That gave me a sense of security.
Well I really like the Planet Ocean 2200.50.00. I like its history being the first PO-Bond watch. Also the Casino Royale is my favorite Bond movie.
I have purchased the watch to wear it, not to sit in a box.

My insecurities are:

I paid 3400$ for the watch and its got a couple of dings by the 10, 20 and 50 mark. To get one in a better condish id have to pay more. Its a full set. Box papers everything. Year 2010. What do you think, is it an ok deal? Keep in mind I live in EU.

Its 12 years old, and I dont know anything about its service history. Now, Crono 24 states that they check movements an pressure test all the watches they sell themselves. And they give a 1 year warranty. What are your experiences? Does it make up for a service? Would you hand it in for service iadmeeadly?

Im very excited about the damn thing but also a little nervous. Hope to get some advice...

Cheers 馃槈

I have one of these, and it is just about the only watch I wear (of the half dozen or so Omega watches I have). It is a cracking first choice - you won't be disappointed. Those dings look livable with to me - especially if it is going to be a daily wear your not too precious about.

The price seems reasonable too for a full set. Though those with a keener eye than mine might have other observations.

If you don't know it's service history, I'd put it in for a service when you can live with parting with it for a short while. Knowing your own service history with the watch will give you peace of mind.

First off welcome to the forum and congratulation on the great OP!

Others with more experience may have better insights here but regarding the dings you mention I think you begin to touch on that in your original post, that I quoted above. IMO if you purchased it to wear it, take the dings with a grain of salt as there may be more to come with daily wear. It's a wonderful watch and with time you may enjoy the patina / wear that it came with and that is added with you wearing it.

As far as servicing, from what others have imparted to me and from my own experience, I agree with @Dedalus05 taking it in and knowing your own service history of the watch definitely gives more piece of mind. Congrats again on your new to you watch and wear it in good health!

Thanks for your comments. That gives me some peace of mind. I really look forward to have it on my wrist.

When I get it I have a 14 day return window. How do you test your new watch?

I guess i'll count how many +/- seconds each day. What is reasonable here? +/- 2 sec?
Should I test if its waterproof? I guess ill wear it in a pool anyway when we go to Mallorca on holiday.
Anything else?

Regarding the water resistance of your watch. If it was me, personally I would not submerge it in water or get the watch that wet until I had a trusted watch maker pressure test the case to ensure that it is able to be in water. But as I'm not too familiar with Ocean Planet's I'll defer to other's here with more experience.

Thanx for your reply. Im really bummed if i cant swim with my PO, but ill be more bummed if it gets waterdameged. I have now asked Crono24 if its safe to take a swim, and their warranty covers it. Waiting for an answer.

If you can get the dealer to confirm, I would specifically ask them if they pressure tested the watch. If they did not, a trip down to a local Omega Experienced/Authorized watchmaker would be your best bet. From what my watchmaker has told me it is not a complicated test.

I would imagine that most likely your watch is fine, but with my watches I prefer to play it safe and get an experience eye on them.

First of all, Chrono24 doesn't sell watches directly -- they are just a site to facilitate individuals and dealers to sell watches. They run an escrow service to facilitate a safer transfer of watches and money.

Second, the dealer you bought it from said they "checked the movement and pressure tested it". This is different from a complete service and overhaul. The basically do a check to make sure the watch operates, doesn't look horrible of a timegraph (and may simply adjust the movement so it DOES look good), and run a pressure test (probably dry) but don't necessarily replace all the gaskets.

For peace of mind, I would send it in to Omega for a complete overhaul. It's a 12-year-old watch and the original owner(s) likely never serviced it. A lot of people sell their watches when it's time to get them serviced because they don't want to deal with it. The watch will come with a two-year warranty and you can be guaranteed it will have been properly serviced.

Or, you can just wait and see until it demonstrates bad timing, gets water inside, or stops working and then send it to Omega for service. I wouldn't bother with the 1-year Warranty from the dealer. Who knows if they will actually service it, or just do what they need to to get it running again.

If you take a look at this add (Not my watch) : https://www.chrono24.dk/omega/seama...-stahl-herrenuhr-ref-22005000--id23776614.htm
Its Crono24 that sells the watch directly. They have bought the watch off a seller. They are now owners and resell it to me for a profit.
Under the Security tab they state that their watchmakers "do their thing" on the watch, pressure test and what not. That's a special service cause they sell it directly.
It may be completely bullshit form Chrono24 i dont know.
And thanks for your advice, when I have saved up a little ("This was a big purchase for me") i'll send it in for a complete service. I guess I have to 馃榾

If your just swimming in a pool and everything is screwed down I highly doubt a PO would flood.

I just received my watch, and what a beauty. The scratches in the picture is not visible 馃槈
It turns out that Crono24 made a pressure test on the watch yesterday. They have sent proof 馃榾
They have also sent some sort of chart showing their test of the movement. I dont understand any of the numbers. Maybe somebody could explain? Is it as it should be?
Happy camper here ::psy::

Nice...馃榾 I have to get myself one of those rubber straps to switch it up... What's up with the blue? Is it the camera or the AR-coating?

It's the AR coating. The watch is decidedly black dialed, but it's always blue in my mind's eye. It really is a classic.

VERY NICE!! I have a PLANET OCEAN and love it!! These watches are built to last a lifetime and generally they do. Wear and enjoy your watch. I would not at all worry, as others have suggested, about sending it in immediately. Looks fantastic.

Very nice. I have the exact same one 2200.50.00 for sale with the 2500D movement.
