Wife is out of town this weekend so what am I doing? Anything I want! Most likely to involve watch shopping, multiple pizza’s made, and just a bit of baseball/football.

Timing is good actually, expecting delivery of her first Rolex and don’t have to worry about her asking questions about the FedEx box. Gives me a chance to check it out, maybe even give it a quick test drive just to make sure it works. 😉

Taking two broken iPads to the Apple store for repair and hoping they feel generous enough to go easy on the repair bill, kids are great 🤔

Last week of high milage training for a marathon. My wife and I ran 300km in September. We booked our flights and accommodation for Slovenia. Tomorrow is our last 33km run before winding down the distance ready for the big day.
When training for a half marathon, we usually run 21km or more many times before the event, once you have done it, you know you can at least cover the distance, but if you did that for a marathon your legs would need a week to recover. 33km is the longest training run for a marathon program.
This is my first ever marathon and half of me is looking forward to it and the other half is worrying about not being able to run the whole distance. I like the solitude of running, no team to hide behind if it goes tits up.

I went to an Apple store a year ago, to buy a new iPad for my wife. The store wasn’t busy. I was greeted at the door and when I told her why I was there, I was asked if I had an appointment! An appointment to buy something, I asked? She was adamant! So we went to Office Depot, and bought one there. With no BS!

This picture was taken two week ends ago. I was unaware the picture was taken. The fiddle group,I belong to played at a country fair on Saturday, Sept. 24. All kinds of activities, including plowing demonstrations, horse drawn buggy rides, farmer’s market, antique farm equipment, a 100 year old potato harvester, an operating combine of the same vintage, mule driven ice cream maker, all kinds of activities for kids. And of course, our music. We played for close to 3 hours. I’m the tall guy in the middle, playing fiddle. Fun, fun, fun. There was a paid admission of about 300.

I’m doing this Lego crocodile train and chilling since it’s my birthday Monday and I’m feeling like an old man with clicking noises from my knees and groans when getting out or chairs like my dad.

With gas at 6.45 for an imperial gallon, I can tell you there won’t be much driving being done by me………or by many others. I wonder if my sadly deflated bike tires will still hold air? Hopefully, later today, I will have acquired enough bench jobs to occupy my week end. Failing that, some of my collection would benefit from some attention.

I just finished servicing a Rolex Air-King chronometer for a friend. The first Air-King chronometer I have seen, though I had heard they existed. Nice watch. Maybe 5 to 7 years old, though I don’t know when the chronometer version of the Air-King was introduced. He asked me what the watch might be worth. I guessed at around $5,000. Then I checked! Used ones range from circa $7,500, to over $10,000, U S dollars. New ones over $11,000 U S. Boy am I out of touch. I’m wearing my 1971 Air-King today. I won it in 1971, and it arrived with a hang tag showing a retail price of $215.00, (Cdn.)! In 1966, the Rolex steel & gold Date-Just was priced at $475.00! It is very hard for me to believe these current prices!

Do you have a favourite lego set? My wife has quite a lot of different sets, no trains yet but quite a few cars and different buildings. My favourite is the Adidas shell toe shoe. Going to get the typewriter next.

Favourite I think is the orange GT3RS, I’ve got the 75182 millennium falcon but it was so big that it became more of a chore than fun to build, the three large scale technic cars are the perfect balance of fun and effort with high complexity

Mine is pretty well blocked out. I have a real nice Zenith bumper automatic that a friend wants me to do. It needs much work! My 30-year old Rolex Date-Just (cal. 3035) is due for a freshening, running fine, but losing a bit more than I am comfortable with. A lot of people would just move the regulators (there are 4 screws on the balance wheel because Rolex chronometers for about 70 years have been free-sprung, no traditional regulator). I take a base line on the timing machine, then service it. Rarely do I ever have to regulate it after servicing. It is forecast to be 32° C (close to 90° F) on Saturday and Sunday. Plus we have smoke from thousands of forest fires in British Columbia wafting our way on the prevailing westerlies. How better to spend a week end?
Smoking a Boston Butt on the Reqtec 590.
