Plans for the week end?

Mine is pretty well blocked out. I have a real nice Zenith bumper automatic that a friend wants me to do. It needs much work! My 30-year old Rolex Date-Just (cal. 3035) is due for a freshening, running fine, but losing a bit more than I am comfortable with. A lot of people would just move the regulators (there are 4 screws on the balance wheel because Rolex chronometers for about 70 years have been free-sprung, no traditional regulator). I take a base line on the timing machine, then service it. Rarely do I ever have to regulate it after servicing. It is forecast to be 32° C (close to 90° F) on Saturday and Sunday. Plus we have smoke from thousands of forest fires in British Columbia wafting our way on the prevailing westerlies. How better to spend a week end?

For us it's child-proofing our house this weekend. My wife and I have been empty-nesters for quite a while, and in about two weeks time our daughter and two-year-old granddaughter will arrive for a six-week stay. They live ten time zones away so the Covid thing has kept us apart for most of our granddaughter's life (last time she was here she couldn't even crawl). Lots of cabinet locking thingies to install and lots of knickknacks to put out of sight (or at least out of reach) 😀

It is hard to "child-proof", but the child is the best tool. Just watch them very closely for about an hour, they will find everything you missed! Good luck, and enjoy your long awaited visit! I look forward to grand-parenting in 10+ years or so. I have a couple of teenage girls now, and I think being a grandparent will be a joy.

Noble pursuits, all. I’ll need more than servicing of two watches to keep me busy, and I’d like to do some of it out of doors! Not going to happen. I’ll see if you know who has a honeydew jar, somewhere.

A bit of work needs finishing up tomorrow morning 🙁, but then a trip to the leather shop followed by most of the rest of the day being spent waterfront in parks as we keep cool during a heatwave. A heatwave that thankfully won’t be as harsh as the last one. Still a good day to do not a lot of anything if you can

Meeting the head of The Porsche experience LA for coffee. Teaching a class on cyber security. Talking with a former instructor on a new potential job opportunity…. Then a nap. And watch the recorded F1 quali.

Then nothing. That’s only till 3pm on Saturday.

Ok I’ll watch the F1 race on Sunday.

Picking up my 25 year old Conrad Johnson preamp from service tomorrow, have a friend who is an acoustic engineer coming over on Sunday to “map” my listening room with his fancy toys for room treatment (absorption vs diffusion). Should make for some fun indoor listening to lots of music.

Installing a couple of custom made pieces of furniture my better half made for one of our room.

A hanging desk and a hanging commode/chest drawer, both in walnut wood!

I shall update my post with some pictures once done... We are revamping that room, and it is the first step. Next step will probably be to chose a colour painting for the walls.

Hanging commode? Umm in my use of the word that doesn’t hang.

Crap. I am envious of all of you. I am stuck covering call at work for the long weekend up here. Mrs. P says that I will be "on edge" for 96 hours straight (well only 74.5 left...). Only consolation is that when not actually doing things I need to be by a computer, so I can check in on OF among other "places". Currently looking for a link for a 76790A bracelet for a new acquisition, and I guess a couple of spring bars.....

Sounds like the world is safe from any monkey business perpetrated by OF members, this week end. Too busy, too busy! I’ll squeeze in some month-end paper work (how I hate paper work), maybe watch a bit of the Olympics, take the hobby car for a run, and hang loose when there’s nothing productive to do.

Work in progress, we just things back a bit just to check how it looks. Setup still needs to be thought of, white table stay there until another small desk on another corner of the room will be added.
Ps: on the left, the "hanging" commode

in the US commode has a different meaning. It comes from the same place but diverged in its use.

originally it was a piece of furniture hiding a chamber pot. In the US it became a toilet, elsewhere it stayed at type of furniture of about the same size.

On Friday evening I shall take the new teachers from my department for a beer or two, On Saturday I will do a 29km/18 mile run. My wife and I are training for a Marathon in Slovenia at the end of October. It is 27+ degrees most evenings here with 80-90% humidity, so it is quite tiring. Sunday is for house chores and a short run in the evening.
