I think the most reckless behavior I see on OF is people surfing eBay while drinking...
What about skateboarding without kneepads? 馃槻

OP imposing forum rules that suit his moral standings, shaming other members, accusing others of stalking, passive aggressive tone through out.
OP cared enough about something to bring it up to us.

While I disagree 99% with him, we can still be respectful. Come on, man. He'll warm up to us once he calms down and just enjoys watches with us instead of beating his head against a wall he didn't know was there (us).

I guess I would just hate to see a new member retreat and never come back due to a rough start here

I appreciate the sentiment - I'm aware of my tone and how I'm approaching the topic can be abrasive - perhaps I need a vacation (fortunately I have one coming up and still haven't decided which watches to take!).

I'm not going to go back and direct-quote all my responses I'll just leave it at this:
What I think everyone is missing is there's a difference between pics of themselves being stupid, and pics where their stupidity is endangering others. That's not a question of morality.

What I'm gathering is this community would prefer to allow the post to occur, and we'll either publicly shame, or generally ignore. I see nothing wrong with larryganz's post - yeah it looked like he was driving but he also used text to clarify "I was parked" - so? move on. In the rare case we see a highway photo with speedometer visible then we handle accordingly:

We鈥檒l handle it the same way we handle other people who describe how they violate the law.

Tell them it鈥檚 a bad idea to advertise their illegality and move on.

Do you have any stats to show how many accidents, near misses, and fatalities arise from people taking photos of watches while driving?

I guess my point is with all of the things going on in this world where people are putting other people's lives in danger, this one seems to be an odd and rather obscure one to go on a crusade about...

The only thing we delete pictures of is anything involving people's address (usually inadvertently on packaging) and pictures of storage of watches at home and/or safes. The reason is it attracts thieves and criminals in the same way leaving food out on the kitchen bench attracts roaches, but in any case we don't have the time to police this sort of stuff effectively.

Why all those behind-the-wheel pictures anyway? Never got that, probably just me...

That, and why do people like to have their feet/ shoes show up in their watch pictures? I would be all in favor of a ban of feet/ shoes showing up in watch pics...

Do I have to post stats about distracted driving for you to think it's a bad idea? Also - a couple posts is hardly a crusade 馃槈 And all those other topics have the attention of people far more important and impactful than me.

It's the lighting. Often times it's nice and bright, while indirect. Whether or not people realize it, they just think "oh looks good now" and snap away.

I'm well aware of the issues surrounding distracted driving. What I'm saying is that it's really not about watches and watch collectors, but of course you know that. Again if you have statistics to show that the problem of distracted driving is about watch collectors taking photos when driving, then by all means post them - otherwise I don't believe this is a big issue.

A "couple of posts"...well you started an entire thread about this topic after only being here for a short time, arguing against something that I don't believe is really happening on this forum. So far 9 of your 38 posts are dedicated to this topic.

In your first post you asked "can we discuss banning or removal of photos clearly taken behind the wheel of a moving vehicle?" and we have. It's clear from comments made by staff that it's not going to happen here, so you might as well move on from this one.

Now I have to try for myself and violate the new forum rule "no-watch-pictures-while-driving"

I've noticed this seems to be a growing trend. Worse is when they're bare and with pants around them while photographer is sat on the crapper.

That *should* be okay if they are timing it with a chronograph, or monitoring their remaining oxygen supply with a diving bezel.

When I'm on the crapper, I produce more crap than you will find in this thread, so no time for pics 馃榾
Sorry guys couldn't resist 馃槤

I wasn't aware we had limited thread resources, and a limit to new members posting them. Do I owe for server costs now because you didn't like the topic? 馃檮

Well, you can keep deflecting if you like. But we have had the conversation you said you wanted, and it didn't go your way. You are certainly free to post whatever you want to, but you also should be prepared for push back if others don't agree. That's all that's happened here...

Still waiting for the stats...

I'm missing the part where I'm up in arms and complaining that I didn't get my way. I asked for a discussion, got a lot of feedback, stated why I disagree on some parts. Still feel that way. That's how it goes.

I'm not trolling. And yeah, I'm for the most part done. I just couldn't help myself with the last reply - characterizing me as some crusader eating up valuable kilobytes of board resources. I'm moving on from the thread, and perhaps you should, as well. No stats coming, because what's the point? That's not deflection.

FWIW - I fully recognize your valuable contributions to the board even in my short time here. Not my intent to anger or frustrate. But I'm also not necessarily going to have the same viewpoint as you on non-technical topics. I hope you don't hold it against me when I inevitably have a question that will deal with movements, complications, service, etc.

I didn't say you were up in arms.

I didn't say you were trolling, or using up valuable kilobytes or limited resources.

Continuing to mischaracterize my posts as something they are not I do find frustrating, so I would appreciate it if you would stop.

As I've already said, having a different viewpoint is just fine, but if others don't agree, they will push back against suggestions like yours.

If you find a post that you believe should be removed, there is already a process for that. Click on "options" and then "report post" and tell the mods why you believe it is inappropriate. If they agree, they will take the appropriate action.
