Pictures while driving

can we discuss banning or removal of photos clearly taken behind the wheel of a moving vehicle?

We absolutely should not encourage such reckless behavior. Even if your car has autopilot features, I say not until fully autonomous. Until then it’s a shameful misuse of a 3,500+ pound ground missile.

Just don't go and try to ban photography from flying missiles. :whipped:

OP, your avatar pic looks like it was taken behind the wheel. 😗

In a car, yes. Behind the wheel, yes.
In a parking lot, transmission in park.

I think joining a forum and within a few posts trying to suggest rule changes is sort of odd but saying that... No one here actually takes photos of their watches whilst controlling a moving car do they?

I know some of you come from countries with very long, straight, empty roads unlike the tangled mess that is the UK but even so....Seriously?

Another popular watch forum follows this guidance, and I think it makes sense. So yes, even with 30 posts here, I'm not one to bite my tongue - this is a way to contribute. Would you rather I conform to an echo chamber until I've amassed enough posts to warrant voicing an opinion?

I'll find the example I'm talking about - shows clearly driving down the road at speed. I'm not talking about being a hawk and scrutinizing every wheel shot - just not endorsing clearly reckless behavior.

This is a watch forum, not a place for you to lecture grown adults. You must be a riot at a party.
grown adults are welcome to keep moving if they're insulted by common sense suggestions. I'm talking about what makes sense to support/endorse as a community.

I wasn't insulted. I saw you posted a similar thread on TRF, under a different user name. Is this some kind of mission you're on? Just curious.

I don't think it's a ridiculous suggestion. On the other hand, we are somewhat of a libertarian bunch over here.

So while I personally would not encourage such behavior, I would not be in favor of banning photographs of it either. Besides, whose to say that the pictures weren't taken by a passenger anyway?

Once you start taking out the "ban hammer" for every little thing, you wind up on a slippery slope to TimeZone territory.

No one wants that, trust me.

I totally agree with the above plus, man, please do voice your opinions, contribute, get involved in life in general - it's a lovely way to be - but couldn't your input be positive rather than trying to enforce rules? Couldn't they be about your love of watches or sunsets or whisky rather than your dislike of someone else's behavior? I think this is something worth pondering on for a bit as it could make for a more positive life in general.

Anyway, back on topic - after my shock that anyone actually attempted photographing their watch whilst driving curiosity got the better of me and I had to give it a try... On a private, country road with no passangers or other traffic obviously...this was the best I could manage, most were terrible...

So to sum up... I am better at photography when not driving and better at driving when not taking photos... Glad I cleared that up for myself! 😀

I appreciate the attempted stalking but I’m not active on TRF, though I have an account. Post Link? My user name there is Milles396.

To clarify I don’t want to ban users, just let mods have the discretion to remove based on that criteria.

I have been, and will continue to contribute positively, check my other posts.

I just have a sore spot for distracted driving, and I see it so often daily. People FaceTiming and taking selfies while driving through intersections on busy city streets.

So yes, I don’t think we should glorify an activity as such. No matter how safe people think they’re being. It’s sad how often I see people at red lights proceed forward on green without looking up to get “just those few moments longer” with whatever had their attention more than making sure the path ahead is clear.

There was a thread nearly identical to this one, expressing the same admonition about taking watch photos while driving, including the comment about a 3,500 lb. vehicle. If it wasn't you, then I apologize.

Lots of people have sore spots. If we took them all off, this would be a boring place.

Time to move on.

I mean there’s a sore spot and there’s reckless endangerment. I’m not taking about “no dress watches on NATOs.”

I guess that’s just a common estimate for the weight of a current passenger vehicle.

If people want to advertise how stupid they are, that’s OK with me.

I plainly do not concede that choosing not to mention or "scrutinize" places you in a default position of endorsement of such an activity.

In my view, the push to standardize this application of reasoning is divisive and problematic for society in general. Have you noticed that everyone has an opinion about what you should personally endorse or be offended by, but then when your opinion differs from the group they are beyond reproach?

That said, I applaud your desire to keep the roads safe. Riding a motorcycle taught me more in two summers than the decade I spent in cars before then. Moral of that experience: assume that everyone is trying to kill you because they're all morons in a vehicle.

Perhaps you could start a thread like: Hublots & Hood Ornaments to encourage people to not be inside the car. It's just that changing behaviors is something that takes more time and more planning than I'm willing to put into my two thumbs with a glass of whiskey at the end of the night when I browse the forums...perhaps I shouldn't drink and post 😉

I think the most reckless behavior I see on OF is people surfing eBay while drinking...

I took this photo Monday while parallel parked in Breckenridge CO, getting ready to leave. It looks like I'm driving though, and the PC police could have a field day with it if people are allowed to assume the worst.

I think this is just getting good
OP imposing forum rules that suit his moral standings, shaming other members, accusing others of stalking, passive aggressive tone through out.
