Oyster Perpetual 39mm or Aqua Terra 41mm?

That's because the Rolex already looks dated. Hasn't changed materially in the past 40 years in style.

Tom

Theres a difference between 'dated' and timeless.

Have owned both the white OP39 and the 38mm white dial Aqua Terra on grey rubber. I still have the Aqua Terra.

The OP39 was a snoozer to me, honestly. I love the classic look of it, but I sure don’t look at my wrist 400x a day just to look at “resale value.”

The Aqua Terra’s rubber strap alone is the best warm-weather watch I’ve ever worn, period. The bracelet is a little shiny, but three OEM strap/bracelet options, the host of better tech features AND THE PRE-OWNED PRICE to acquire one makes the Omega the no-brainer choice.

Style doesn't go out of fashion and might be why after over 40 years you still have a hard time buying many of the ss DJ models.

I'm with you that a lot of watches are faddish and way too busy to be taken seriously (Bulova, I'm glaring at you), but is the Rolex styling classic because it's classic or classic because it's Rolex?

All of their watches look like 70s to me. All those stick hands are just a turnoff. Show me some nice dauphine hands, now THOSE are classic.

I would dearly love to. Probably a spring drive. But my company bonus would have to be astonishing.

See after trying on another OP 39, this time in black, I'm starting to find that the timepiece honestly doesn't appeal to me in any huge way. Maybe I just got caught up by the Rolex name and chose the OP too soon.
As stated before I don't care about resale value (As long as it isn't like some 80% depreciation.)

The OP is well-made for sure, the black dial has a beautiful sun-burst effect that was absent from the white and I do like the WG hour markers. But as an entire watch it just doesn't seem so amazing now. Timeless it may be but boring it is too.

The AT is great too, but the orange seconds hand does indeed feel like it'll go out of style or just not look good in the future. Plus as said I need something that works beach-boardroom and that orange hand won't work in the boardroom.

Anyway I've gone ahead on buying a timepiece, after having taken everyones advice on board; I'll reveal it when it arrives. I can say that it's not that Rolex, nor is it that Omega. Neither is it any other watch brand.

Hi everyone!

I've recently been wanting to purchase a new daily wearing after having sold off my SM300. I was looking for a versatile timepiece that could be used in any situation without looking out of place.
Thus after some research and thinking I've come up with two timepieces, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual 39mm in white and the Aqua Terra 41mm in white. I can't seem to seriously decide over which would be better to have and thought others could lend their honest opinions about each of the watches?

Thank you for any and all opinions!

Simple: do you need a date complication? Yes or no?

For a work week watch, for me, it's essential as I sign a lot of docs and truly look at my watch for the date more often than the time which is on every computer screen.

If you don't need the date function, and I'm saying this as an omega fan, I think the rolex is a more aesthetically pleasing watch between those two with a better minimalist dial design.

I'm also not a fan of current omega style of date at 6 o'clock.

I'm confident, just not confident enough to strut around in a rubber suit; seriously wearing one must be super uncomfortable!

I was thinking to go for the Oysterflex strap or a Rolex leather strap. Truth be told bracelets aren't my favourite, although if I had to wear any bracelet it would be a Rolex bracelet.

Thank you all for your opinions so far, I'm also leaning more towards the OP but I've just realised they sell it in black so that's also something to consider..

The OP is better in white. If you want black, look at the explorer 1.

Ok, I'll guess then...

No cyclops.
Sporty and fun, but boardroom ready?

Milgauss?

What does it matter if you are only pushing a trolley of coffee and biscuits in to the boardroom?😁

OP,

What did you end up getting?
I just got the white dial and it checks all the boxes for me. I can see where you might think it boring, but I needed that part as I need an under the radar look. I prefer most folks at work not making assumptions about me if they see a blingy or high profile Submariner. The OP
Is understated but very refined. I can use it on a black strap to go full dress as well. The bracelet is fabulous on the other hand and hard not to want to wear it on that.
The boring part fades quickly as you see how elegant the dial truly is.
Totally recommend this. And they are available at good prices.
