Well I can’t to much about the polishing now, because the service is done.
In all seriousness, your watch, being a sporty reasonably late model Seamaster was probably owned by a successful or at least accomplished guy from the tri-state area who could have traded it in at a place like Tourneau towards a more expensive piece. Also, it's quite common for tourists to hit the watch retailers and diamond/jewelry dealers while visiting NYC. Watchvault buys loads of trade ins from these high end retailers. For sure whoever owned it had at least a working knowledge/appreciation of what's cool, not merely trendy like a sub.
Have you thought of an archive report from Omega? That might at least narrow down the geographic area your watch was originally shipped to.
Your work is being done by an Omega service center so the polish job will be professional and maintain the case profile and sharpness. I think the member was warning against do-it yourself polishing or letting some random shop have at it which would be a mistake.
That’s awesome, I haven’t been in the air since I left Afghanistan, well I take that back I took a flight from Nashville to San Francisco back in 2015. But I would love to be back up in the air in a small aircraft. Or even a small boat in the middle of the ocean.
It’s a special experience being alone in a small aircraft, on top of the world and master of your own destiny. I imagine it’s similar on a boat in the middle of the ocean. I can only encourage you you to get back in the air, or onto the water, such a great way to forget all the petty troubles of life and live in the moment.
Flying lessons would be nice, as far as the sea goes, I’m pretty land locked here in Tennessee. But I do like shooting my guns, and I’m considering learning how to play golf. Im 38, work for Gibson guitars and I have 3 sons. 5, 4 and 3. So my wife and I have a pretty full plate. Spare time can be hard to come by.
I don’t suppose you know what free time is atm! Those are busy ages, but don’t worry, only the first 40 years of fatherhood are the hardest 😀 (I’m only at 16 so far.)
Still, it’s important to have some down time if you can. Here in the U.K. learning to fly sailplanes is one of the most cost effective and fun ways to fly, although power is cool too. Go for a trial flight at your nearest airport if you get the chance.
Cool job tho!
Got my watch back from service today! I was very surprised with all the parts they replaced!
