Saw this watch on an auction site and curious on it's authenticity. The bracelet obviously looks bad but not sure about the actual watch. Thoughts? If it is real what do you think a fair price is in it's current condition? Thanks!

Do you know what the reference number for the watch is? It's probably included in the auction listing. A good way to begin would be for you to do an internet search for that reference number and read everything you can. Then compare this watch with examples that you find online to determine whether it's authentic.

There is no reference number listed. Honestly it's a small little local auction company. They list no details. I was scouring the internet and comparing examples. It looks to me like an early 1970's seamaster.

Start with this: Vintage Watch: Seamaster Cosmic 2000 CD 166.0128 | OMEGA US® (omegawatches.com). Then search Seamaster Cosmic 2000 on YouTube. These two sources should give you enough information to determine whether the watch that you're interested in is authentic. Finally, go to eBay and search Seamaster Cosmic 2000 under sold items/completed items and those listings should give you an idea of what a reasonable price should be for this reference.

I'd suggest doing some research using previous sales (not asking prices) on eBay, forum listings, auctions, etc. That's what I do when I'm trying to decide how much to bid on a watch. It's not a rare watch, so with a little effort you can find comps.

But if you really like a watch, sometimes you just need to bid until you win.

Keep in mind: if it's a basket case, it will cost more in repairs than it's worth.
Below is a good range from ebay sold listings. Of course, these are working watches.

I’d say $300 max. These are not uncommon and can easily be found in good condition with really nice blue dials.
