By Occam's razor, a sloppy defective part is authentic? Do you hear yourself? Logic twisted into a pretzel.

A different crystal batch, comes from an old parts dealer in US, an Omega crystal tube all had skewed crystals, the top surface is like 10 degrees sloped

So yeah, you are coming from a place of inexperience, while I bought all the crystals in the market for the model I collect and experienced them all with all their possible defects

@Dan S - stupid people are surprisingly confident, so maybe you hear yourself

Hey if we are talking Seikos, a misaligned chapter ring is a sign of authenticity! 😉

Khan,

From my point of view, I think that the issue that hasn’t been discussed is how you intend to use the crystals. If they are for your own use with watches from your collection that you intend to keep, that’s one thing. If you intend to use them for watches that you are restoring for sale, that’s something else. I can only speak for myself, but when I purchase a watch I expect all defects to be disclosed. To me, regardless of whether the crystal is OEM or aftermarket, I’d want to know about a logo that is off center before I’d pull the trigger on purchasing the watch. To me, an off center logo on a crystal is a defect regardless of whether the crystal is otherwise fully suitable for its intended purpose.

With all these said, another perspective from me, probably Cousins is the most major fake parts seller today, I've reported them to Omega and nothing happened, they still sell what I assume to be aftermarket Omega crystals that eBay sellers sell, these are very easy to sell apart from their ring design

So while I base my assumptions on old Omega sellers selling authentic parts, if what's happening today happened in the past too, they could indeed be better vintage fakes, but seems unlikely to me, why sell fake parts when you are an original parts dealer and parts are cheap and available anyway, also making a 1:1 ring seems challenging

When they grade collectable cards, centering is a big point, if they ever grade crystals, these will get a 1 from centering 😀

When you can't defend yourself with facts or logic, resort to name-calling. After reading many of your posts on the forum, that's about what I'd expect from you.

I've delivered my facts, can you show a vintage fake crystal? Does it even exist? You deliver yours

So back to the stupid we are, provide 0 facts, claim I didn't deliver any facts, how else can you define stupid, by my definition you are it

And let’s not talk about the “within spec” of crooked coronets on Rolex dials.

Honestly, I think this is a little heavy-handed. These are two guys that are passionate about their points of view, and things got a little heated. Happens to all of us. I’m certain they can sort this out between them.

If the OP seems slightly defensive, it may be because he puts these "NOS" crystals on the watches he sells.

How on earth is this productive?

You are very right about that, if these are "aftermarket" - and if the leading community can't back the claims up, how can I continue doing anything in the field - at that point anything can be "aftermarket" - so it's very important to get to the truth

You are really not productive though, apart from talk, you didn't contribute anything, you've still not shown any evidence there was any "aftermarket" crystals prior to the very obvious eBay fakes

All my parts come from somewhere, I don't make them at home, so if you have any bold claims, make them boldly. They are all from established parts sellers, retired watchmakers or estate sellers

This specific crystal in the OP came from:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/166673617938

I'm not going to write and taint his name here with your baseless extreme claims

But you can see how you're implicating* a retired watchmaker with selling fake parts

The second different off center crystal came from an entirely different / older unused stock

This website may earn commission from Ebay sales.

I don’t see any “facts” presented for either side, just opinions...

I continue to be astonished at the language used on this message board. I shrug it off, generally, but name calling (calling others stupid) seems to me a bit over the top! Perhaps the moderators don’t share my opinion. Reporting a post to the moderators heavy handed ? You think calling others stupid should be tolerated? I don’t!

I agree on this one, it shouldn’t devolve into name calling or letting tempers flare into personal attacks- that’s just fυcked up…sorry @Canuck - couldn’t help myself 😉

Which were requested in the title of the thread. Although in retrospect, it appears that only one opinion was welcome. Otherwise it is a baseless claim and an attack. Methinks the OP doth protest too much.

A complete misrepresentation of my post. I never said that the behavior should be condoned. I simply implied that they are two, intelligent adults who both contribute a lot of helpful material here, who got a bit hot-headed and went after each other. I stand on my opinion that, if left alone, they will eventually sort it out, without the moderators stepping in. What do you think is appropriate here? The thread should be locked? They should be banned? Scolded and sent to their rooms without supper?
