The new hands bothers me somewhat. They are so very very fresh compared to the nice vintage feel of the rest of the clock.
...so, if anybody would have a pair of nice/NOS hands I would be interested in buying 😀

·You can have the original hands replaced, assuming they were not damaged They looked correct for the overall feel of the watch I would try that first.

They were damaged unfortunately, as I understood it from the watchmaker:
They were sitting too low, amongst other things, suggesting they were worn.
There were also dashes of paint here and there, perhaps a previous DIY attempt at improving friction on the post (if that makes sense
...and they were dropping off pieces of lume, that the watchmaker were worried could get into the movement.
But, perhaps a specialist could have a look at the old hands, and make them usable again?
I agree, I liked the look of them!

·The lume can be stabilized I believe others know more about this. Probably only way to know is to bring them to a vintage friendly watchmaker and ask. I would start with your watchmaker first and discuss options.

·You can also artificially age the new hands to reduce the ‘brightness’ and age the lume.

·Depends on the watch maker. The new hands can stripped of paint and relume, then repainted in off-white and relume with yellow luminova. Or the existing finish can be aged with heat or other methods such as coffee etc. Depends on the watchmaker and what you want to spend.
It’s a skill though so if you go this route, make sure the person is competent to do it well.

·I have now had a couple of second opinions on the original set of hands, and they are too far gone to be worth saving. There’s blobs of paint here and there, lume is falling of (as mentioned) and a couple of the hands are crooked.
So, most likely they will stay in the drawer.
I think a nice set of correct old hands would be the way to go.
