Opinion on this Polerouter Date

I have found the pictured example and just wanted to get an opinion on it if possible.

It is a Polerouter Date (I believe it's a ref: 204607/1).

Cosmetically it looks in great condition and keeps good time.

However, the owner has said that there is an issue with the autowinding. It runs fine for anything between 4 - 12 hours and then stops. He suspects it needs a new part but is not quite sure.

He is asking £1,400 for the watch.

Do you think it's a good deal and would it be easy to fix?

Appreciate any advice!

Interesting that the date wheel is already on the move at 10:53, not sure if that’s how these usually behave. The photos are more fashion photos than sales photos. The filtering can either hide or not tell you much.

I have asked for some close up pictures and also a picture of the back.

Does this seem about the right price and is there anything else I should be asking?

Appreciate any advice.

Update:

I have received the further attached photos from the seller.

He also said that he can't take the back off as he doesn't have the part to do so.

Based on the further pictures, what does everyone think about this one?

Just to confirm, I have purchased the watch and should receive it in the next few days!

Any advice on servicing would be appreciated.

I am not sure about that dial. The 12 o clock lume is too far apart and other lume dots are suspect (irregular). At a guess I would say it has had a relume. It looks like the one on the russian forum ...

Thanks for the comment.

Can I please ask what makes you think it has had a relume?

The pits on the lume look original to me, especially when comparing to the attached reference picture for the model.

The 12 o clock lume also looks correctly spaced when compared to this reference, although I appreciate other (similar) models have closer lume dots in this position.

Shouldn't the words "Polerouter Date" be a serifed font? The letter E has the most pronounced serif that my eye usually can spot, and I don't quite see it in your picture.

Also note that I have poor vision so this is no statement of fact 😀

I don't believe this has been relumed at all as there are slight variances on these older watches and it looks to have aged in a similar way to other picture examples.

There are plenty of examples that also show the wider spacing for the 12 o'clock lume, although I do appreciate that most are closer together.

The 'Polerouter Date' label also does have a serif font, as far as I can see, so I'm not concerned about this.

Hopefully it will run fine once serviced and I suppose that's part of the thrill (gamble) you take when picking up these watches that are nearing the 60 year old mark!

Thanks for the comments and advice!

Dial looks fine to me.
I've seen these wide lume plots on 869111 and 204607 - I would guess its probably an early or late serial thing that was done within a certain batch. These wide lume plots also appear on H20217 late serial nrs.

I have seen multiple spacing patterns on this ref. Seems like a good buy. Send pics when you got it
