Any thoughts on this GMT 6542? Dial has been refinished by Rolex. Hands, bezel, and crown are service parts. What do you guys think a 6542 with this much work done is worth?

Then must be refinished by Rolex? Apparently, the watch has only been touched by Rolex service and there are papers to show that.

Thinking about purchasing. Offered to me at a low price and I am thinking about making it a project watch to get correct parts for through time. Just wanted to get thoughts on the value of whats there.

Could you please post the authentic documentation of services completed by the RSC? Obviously for privacy reasons, you'll want to obscure any personal information that appears on the receipt.

You will want to see what's inside and between the lugs.

Given that the value of a 6542 is in its originality, you are basically buying a case. Bakelite bezels are unobtainable -- this one in less than perfect condition sold in 2014 for over $32,500, so you're probably looking at $50k today.

Is the movement correct? The case? What else has been replaced or is wrong?

Finding correct hands, dial, bezel, etc. for that watch would likely be very difficult and VERY expensive (a correct dial and bezel alone would probably cost you more than the price of a correct working 6542 in so-so condition), so to me as a project watch that is so wrong it would have little value. Are you really going to be comfortable wearing that watch looking like that? Why not just buy a nice and correct 1675?

JMHO.

Thank you all for the insight. I decided to pass on the watch and wait for something better to come along.

IMO, this watch is a project impossible to complete... The dial is not refinished, that should have a gilt glossy chapter ring "swiss only" with radium dial, and is nothing of that, well chapter ring but not correct since that is indicate "Swiss T <25" and that doesnt exist (chapter ring with T<25) in rolex.

About value its quite personal opinion, i would not buy it, probably are asking more than 15k and for me that doesnt worth more than 8k...but that is my personal opinion.

Cheers,
