My dealer arrived from Hong Kong last night together with my 1956 Rolex GMT 6542 Red. Today i went to his store today and saw the watch for the first time.

It blew me and took my breath away. The condition of the watch is ourstanding from the unpolished case, minty dial and near perfect bakelite bezel. It was a joy to wear it for the first time. Couldn't wipe off the smile on my face.

Its the best ever birthday and Christmas gift to myself in a long while. Truly happy for this watch to be part if my collection.

I took a photo of the 6542 together with its younger siblings.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.
Stunning example and definitely the star of your GMT collection but that fusia dial is amazing.
Had the chance to buy a bezel like that about 7 years ago but couldn’t bring myself to part with £250.
I then sold my 1675 about 3 years ago just before the explosion.
1675 with that dial colouring is my grail watch.
Enjoy them all, you have a good eye and great taste.

    Thank you for showing us
It really is a pleasure to see these rare watches, hunted down by real enthusiasts.
I fear many watches are being bought by investors, or worse, Consortia of investors. (Who's buying choices are influenced by group thinking).

I wore it the whole day yesterday. The watch just feels so comfortable that I completely forgot that I was wearing THIS watch. The end links are a bit loose so will have that fixed today plus new spring bars installed.

How fragile are those bakelite bezels?

It’s true, I’ve rarely seen an intact, undamaged one, either on Rolexes or Zodiacs.

Oh, and that watch is heartstopping.

One of the nicest watches I have seen in a long time on this forum, the bakelite bezel is mesmerizing. Glad to see it getting some wrist time as well. A truly special piece if there ever was one, congrats on your purchase.

Many thanks. This watch is a thing of beauty. You are right about the bakelite bezel. Gives the watch that special character.

I am still on the hunt for the elusive GMT 6542 albino or more famously known as the Pan Am watch. Hopefully it will turn up in the near future.
