Hi there community,

Could someone perhaps give me an opinion and valuation on these two watches. The dial on the gold Cal.501 look redone to me. On the silver Cal. 565 the hands look a bit odd.

Thanks in advance!

So they are adds for watches for sale that already have a price on them….

How about you tell us the prices you already know and ask us if they are realistic. This makes it easier for us.

Second one is not worth much with that dial….

Well I can't tell you much about values but I wouldn't get the second one because of the dial. The first one looks alright apart from some polishing done to the case.

People really know how to ruin a nice dial.

That first one was in the market for around $450.

About the going rate (probably find one in better condition for a few dollars more…)
One above is a average condition with a few movement issues (ie:rotor rub and may be a few different colour parts - can’t see the best in that shot)
Don’t forget to add a service and it’s nearly $800 watch…but you get 5-7 years with piece of mind.

Thanks a lot mate the silver one was just sold unfortunately. Think it was a steal and also came fully serviced. Damn need to keep looking but at least my initial judgement was more or less okay.

Both were priced around $440 in South African currency

The guy is telling me the dial is original. Is there any way?

Maybe. Original dials have thinner printing, like this:

Now, that said, look at this:

Absolutely original but the latest iPhone 14 seems to take crappy pictures at 1X and 2X while they're great using 0.5X or 3X.

So that is worth asking the seller about. The price seems decent.

Yeah, I mean I'm starting off in my career and $440 in the equivalent SA currency is a fair bit of money (my rent is around 380 dollars p.m. for 78m2 haha). The guy seems trustworthy he is selling a lot of timepieces and has 100% rating, I just don't get how the dial has no patina considering the condition of the rest of the case.

Ask him for a straight picture of the dial (not taken at an angle, like the pictures he's provided thus far), taken in indirect daylight, without the hands covering the writing. If he denies that's your answer right there.

But honestly, I'm very sceptical.

Jeez it's a tough one. Okay I'll ask him for a photo like that.

Here's another one, seems quite straight

It's still out of focus. And, it is possible for a dial to look good when the case does not, and vice versa.

I think that the case looks over polished. The lugs look very soft and curvy.

Number 2 is a redial.

Agree, but remember it's in the market for $440

Would seem like it. Think I'm going to pass.

With time and patience you can get a great watch for $440
