    Hi guys,

I wondered if anyone could help on a rough idea on the value of this Longines dress watch please? A friend has just inherited this gold Longines from his father, I assume it's 18ct but haven't had that confirmed yet. I guessed Cal 30 from the early 1970s? It has always had the Longines gold strap fitted to it, but comes with no box or papers. Case is 32/33 mm.

It is not the kind of watch he will wear so is looking to possibly sell it. I know these valuations are sometimes tricky without more details pics/info, but any help on what fair value may be is appreciated.

I couldn't find much similar on ebay... my guess would be around £1k-1250 but I could be way out.

    Thank you.

Unfortunately, because of the style of the watch, its value is likely to be limited to around the gold content. However, assuming that the case and band are 18k, your low estimate might not be far from the mark.

    Thank you Tony,

Yes I appreciate the market isn't quite there for these beauties any more. It always seems a shame to mention the 'scrap' word when valuing them.

This will be probably bought at scrap value to be melted... too much gold (=> too pricey) to make sense as a watch, unfortunately. Ironically, it would be more interesting (also worth more?) if it was not permanently mated to a gold bracelet.

In any case, you'd have to weight this without the movement to get a valuation.
