Onyx-Inlaid Constellations

Has anyone poked their “onyx” indices to confirm that they are actually as hard as stone as opposed to a rubber-ish material? I’m guessing this is what Omega Enthusast did to get to his conclusion.

with all of the collectors and watchmakers on OF ( who between them must have handled thousands upon thousands of watches) I can’t believe someone hasn’t pulled apart a Constellation or Seamaster index with prismatic onyx insert.

And both @Archer and @hoipolloi have shown close ups of onyx inserts that are quite clearly not rubber.

but happy to stand corrected if Omega Enthusiast has some ( definitive) information we don’t know about. ( not just poking one black index insert and then claiming all prismatic black inserts are rubber)

Oddly funny how the rubber insert photo on said example photos is as blurry as the information…

Here are mine; a Connie and a Seamaster with very similar furniture and hands. I think there is onyx on the hands too, but it could be rubber : )
