One grail collected

Yesterday was a good day for me. It involved a 450 mile round trip from Cheshire to Norfolk, but resulted in my being able to purchase a vintage Daytona from my birth year (1969) together some of the original advertising material and service history from one of the watch's previous owners in New York. I've been after a Daytona for ages. To be honest, I didn't expect to be able to purchase a vintage one like this. But the lack of availability of a modern Daytona at a sensible price, and the notification via another forum of this one, seemed like the stars had aligned. Also, as it happened, the seller works in the same industry as me (the music industry) and we had a good business chat on his boat as well as talking about his extensive Omega collection.

Anyway, here are a few poor photos of the Daytona taken yesterday. This one is a keeper.

Thats quite a drive! I spent childhoods in the late 70s with cousins who lived not far from The Edge, I suspect it’s all changed now!

Beautiful watch, great to see nice examples are still out there for sale, and hope you enjoy wearing it in good health for many years to come!

Nice catch you got there and from my neck of the woods in NY. You might consider swapping out that rivet oyster with it's fixed head links for a vintage folded oyster with detached head links. The big tube inside the rivet oysters and clanking loose head links tend to wear on the engravings between the lugs. Just keep the original bracelet in a drawer and wear the watch on something safer for the engravings 👍

Thanks for the advice on this. Can you recommend something suitable (probably not vintage I guess) that won't cost a fortune? This is a new world for me.

Vintage for sure. You should be able to find a nice 70's vintage folded 19mm oyster fairly easily. Head link wise should be a good match from a precision, oyster date or air king model.

I’d imagine with it still on the original bracelet for 50 years, any damage, if any, will be already done.

enjoy your beautiful piece.

enjoy your beautiful piece.

Not necessarily, as the looser the head links fit the more they clank against the engraved model and serial numbers, and the 6:00 head link on the watch pictured is seriously loose. Getting them tightened to fit closer to the case usually means the inner spring bar tube gets closer to the engraved numbers as well. Believe me we have seen it many times...

What a stunning piece @jpjsavage !!!

Wear it in excellent health!!!

By the way, since I take it that this is your first Daytona, how does it wear? Would you mind writing a little comparison of your impressions between this one and the SS speedy?
