Watch boxes/safes with winders built-in are my go to watch storing solution😀 Keeps the watches going without having to set the time and date each and every time I want to wear one!

For pocket watches. Solid oak, custom made $750.00 each. But it makes a decent collection look more significant.

I've been thinking about this a bit of late. My safe (installed at some expense on the insistence of my insurer) is about 35cm wide inside so any box that's much wider than 300mm is a bit tight; in reality a 6x2 arrangement is about as good as I can get...

So I have a couple of cheapy Amazon boxes like this

… which are OK but I fancied something a little nicer. They live in the safe so I don't need display capabilities.

I got given a Debenhams-sourced Hammond & Co by Patrick Grant box a couple of years ago and I rather like it - feels quite solid and the cushions are finished nicely, at least compared to the £20 Amazonia stuff.

The RRP for that box is £70 but they're currently on sale at £49, which is well worth it.

Trouble is, the Hammond one is quite tall (90mm) and I don't have room to stack 4 of them in the safe... so I bought a 2nd one of them, and replaced the 2x Amazon cheapos with another Debenhams special offer, J by Jasper Conran, currently reduced from £55 to £38.50 each (and only 70mm high):

It's a good way short of the quality of the Hammond one; the pillows feel cheap and light, and the box itself while finished reasonably on the outside is a bit like fancy cardboard being dressed up as luxury. I'll probably hang onto them but I wouldn't recommend, certainly not at full price.

Do you guys find that the bracelets squeeze/compress the pillows because they are always so big? Will that stretch them?

After buying a speedmaster date in 2006, i started googling for more info. Big mistake. What? Omega has vintage watches? Heyyyyyyyy, that's quite nice.... and so the madness began.

With just a few watches, they lived in a drawer, but as they seemed to reproduce in the dark, i started buying boxes. I was gifted a couple and ended up with about 10 large watch boxes. Most of them in the pic below.

I didn't like the inconvenience of having to stack them up or keeping them back in the drawer/shelf/cupboard after i was done. . So i spent an afternoon modding some high density foam which i really liked. The bracelets/straps go in the hole leaving just the watch heads visible. Yup, WATCH HEADS 😗 . Look at all them watch heads....I could see all the watches & daily selection was made really easy. Unfortunately, they got dusty & as you can see, i ran out of space again.

So, i got my hands on some shipping crates & converted one for storage.

It wasn't ideal though & it was a little cumbersome with the heavy lid. I was looking around for wood to do a bit of carpentry, section it out, compartments, double layer, voice activated spring loaded cover, retina scanner..... problem was finding the wood. i could only get mdf or plywood, in 8' x 4' sheets. Want it smaller? Its $2 per cut.

I drew up my plans & decided i either had to invest in some power tools or get one made. I like working with my hands & who doesn't like power tools? Of course i also needed a workbench, router, jig saw, etc... I compromised & decided that if i didn't want to be single, i would convert an existing cabinet into something i could use.

Months of scouring garage sales, used furniture shops, flea markets, craigslist, facebook pages & even notice boards turned up nothing. Until I walked into a furniture store in a pricey neighbourhood one weekend & saw a tallboy that caught my eye. It had 4 large drawers & was made for linen/blankets. And, they could customise anything....

And that's how i ended up with this. Those are my 2nd choice handles,

With a flip top!

To have each drawer customised would have cost too much, so i'm still looking out for some nice wood for a little weekend project.

Top draw, Omegas, 6 of them are out for servicing.

The other drawers..

Also a drawer just for parts

And one for straps, bracelets & buckles.

Sorry for the bad pics 😉

Ha, ha, no, but i've put all the ladies watches into her jewellery box. Frees up more space for me.

I went with @JimInOz 's suggestion & got rid of the non slip mats. I use these trays now, watches i wear on the right & those i don't wear on the left in 2 layers. Found them at a retail display wholesaler for around USD$4 each.

Straps organised in the plastic trays that cost USD$0.50 each.

I suppose it depends on your wrist size, but yet, the pillows get squeezed but they're so light in comparison to the bracelet that I don't worry about the bracelets being stretched at all.

I have a rebuilt Moonwatch box, still have to get some black suede for that final touch.
Might as well use mine as a watch box. How did you do this? Thanks

@MrJKLFoams
Its quite easy actually, unfortunately I dont have any pictures of the process. But the original ”insert” is glued in place and comes out with a little bit of prying. Had to break the insert so dont do this if you want to be able to restore the box.
There is a small step where the original insert was sitting and I used some black foamboard cut to the same size and it fits perfectly. Cutting holes in the foamboard is easy with a sharp knife, number of watches and position within the box is easy to customize. Size of the cutout for Speedmaster is about 22x50mm.
Hope this helps.

I just upgraded to this stackable watch box. It makes it really easy to get it in and out of the safe. I purchased it on Amazon. It's Wolf brand and under $70 if you buy both trays at one time.

Perfect for holding the Speedmaster Decades Collection. 😀
