Omega UK price rise

I took great pleasure in telling my omega boutique that I had bought the latest James Bond incarnation direct from omega on line after his smug attitude towards me treating me like a lower life form for asking if they could acquire the piece for me.
The store also missed out on selling me a Tudor gmt and a ladies Tudor on the same day.
I just walked 10 meters to goldsmiths in Trafford centre and and purchased the above.
Omega boutiques are on a knife edge in my opinion as they are being used as viewing galleries and people then going grey to get a discount.
I know a few independent watch sellers where 20% disc is easily achieved.
And if omega online website continues to sell limited editions direct why on earth would you pay full retail at a boutique for the readily available pieces that you can get at a grey outlet with discounts galore.

I use the same OB and I know all the salespeople and can't think of any with smug attitudes, in fact they've been brilliant.

There are two Croatian salesmen and I've found both to be excellent.

Indeed, so impressed was I, that at the Beaverbrooks 100th celebration lunch I made sure that my thanks for the excellent service was communicated directly to Mark Adlestone the MD.

The only thing that upsets them in my experience is flippers.

Good for you, I don't get why some stores have such poor staff. Also, in terms of discount to us in the UK, direct from Monaco including delivery you can find 27% off a new Planet Ocean.

Where have you found this?

I’ve been saving up for a Planet Ocean 39.5mm for so long. The price increases are really putting me off as I know when the model was launched in 2016 it’s RRP was just over £4K and that’s without discounts.

Thanks for the information, I’ll look into that. I noticed even WatchBuyersUK have already increased their prices too. The 39.5mm very rarely comes up on private sales here. Plenty of 43.5mm ones though. Not sure if it’s because the 39.5mm is unpopular that people don’t buy or whether people buy the 43.5mm but can’t live with the size...

FYI - WatchBuyersUK met me halfway(ish) on a watch. It was originally £2915 but increased to £3089. I was in email correspondence before the increase anyway but asked if they would honour the original price - the couldn’t do that but offered me it at £3000. Worth an ask.

What was your experience like with WatchBuyersUK? I’ve read good reviews on TrustPilot and when I spoke with them over email in late July 2019 they were informative.

I’ll find out soon! Literally in the process of making the order with them. Sorry, sounded like I was a lot further down the line. They are very good with their responses in email and offered me the reduced price very quickly after asking.

Let me know how you get on. By the way, which watch have you chosen?

Just remember when you order from that if they don't have the timepiece on hand they have to get the timepiece directly from the factory. That equals to a wait time of around 5-7 weeks as they quoted to me for an AT.

Otherwise WatchbuyersUK been seriously great to deal with, responsive and actually really flexible on negotiations.

Vintage will appreciate as it already has absorbed its initial depreciation. The problem in the long term is will the millenials children want a blob of antiquity on their wrist ?

They will.

Source. Millenial.

I will do. I went for the FOIS Speedy, was a toss up between that and the classic Moonwatch. How about you?

The FOIS is a great looking chronograph. I take it you don’t mind the manual winding movement?

It was a tough choice but went with what I liked rather than what I felt I ‘should’ like. Tbh I have a few vintage Omegas - 3 manual and 1 bumper so the manual wind thing isn’t an issue to me. I rotate regularly so I just wind and set a new watch each morning.

Ah, so you’re used to manual wind watches already. I’ve worn a mid-size SMP 300m for over 15 years and take the whole ‘self-winding’ thing for granted.

Modern mechanical watches are, quite frankly, jewelry for men that is socially acceptable by all. Most men buy them because of the way they look, and because of the way they think they make themselves look.

I concur. A friend of mine who has lots of inexpensive watches, rotates them for fashion, and more often than not the one he's wearing is not working (dead battery, etc.).

The one thing about Omega continuing to raise prices is that it has motivated me to buy watches (two this year) a bit sooner, knowing that it may soon be more expensive. However, if Omega gets much closer to Rolex prices, I'll just go back to Rolex, where at least I'll know that I'll have a decent resale value.

Well, I say that, but in reality I'm not going back to Rolex unless I can get one at MSRP, which is nearly impossible these days. I won't pay a premium, new or used.
