Omega Speedmaster or Rolex Daytona.

If that's a Marvel quote, I wouldn't know about it.

Stan Lee and the characters from the 60's used to say that. Maybe it's a NYC thing, where they were from, but I never heard it outside of comics. Not a bad thing, just took me back to another time.

Nothing says more about this debate than seven pages of bullshit and still no consensus. 馃槣

I like both, but my next watch will be a Speedy. Nuff said.
Yup- this has gone on long enough

I鈥檓 curious if the OP is genuinely in the market for either option or if they just wanted to start yet another thread that
has been done in some way or another more than 1000 times

Weird, I'm from Australia, it seems to be an infrequent but well known idiom here. I didn't even think about it.

By the way, while I can't say it looks nicer than Omega's Caliber 3861, the current Daytona's Caliber 4131/4132 is quite a good looking movement. Rolex should do more exhibition casebacks, they really do make nice industrial style movements.

The oyster perpetual cosmograph daytona, it's not the best chronograph and it hasn't the best calibre of the horology world.

Agreed, I'll take the El Primero every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

When I bought my Speedmaster 15 years ago, I didn't even consider looking at a Daytona as it wasn't in the ballpark of how much I was willing to spend on a watch. More importantly, it didn't even make my list of what I found to be an attractive looking watch.

There is nothing worse (when it comes to collecting watches) than wearing a watch that doesn't bring you joy when looking at it while it's on your wrist. The Speedmaster does that for me. The varieties and longevity is endless and for that reason I created my Speedmaster Decades Collection. A speedy from each decade I have lived.

There's no comparison between the Speedy and the Daytona, handwound vs. automatic, where is the logic behind it??? Nevertheless I would choose the Daytona but to be honest, Zenith El Primero over the Daytona ALL MY LIFE

I think it is manual to be true to the history not to be inexpensive. Auto speedmasters are not true to the watch.

That鈥檚 like saying film versus digital, or analog music verses digital. Some of us have both and appreciate that a few companies choose to continue heritage technologies for us to enjoy.

That's true, but I think his point was well-taken, that different technologies make the comparison less apt. TBH, I tend to agree that the watches are not comparable, not only due to the auto-winding vs hand-winding, but also the fact that the Daytona has an oyster case with screw-down crown and pushers. The construction is totally different and more robust.

I'm not a fan of the modern Daytona at all and I would never buy one, but overall I feel it is in a different category than the moonwatch.

It's worth pointing out the Daytona's pushers aren't screw down in the watertight sense. The screw function prevents you pushing them, but it doesn't aid directly in water resistance. That said, the Daytona is rated up to 100 m vs 50 m on the Speedy so it wins the category anyway.

Personally I view the Daytona and Speedmaster as direct competitors. They're the two most iconic chronographs from the two most well known (imo) luxury watch brands. The Daytona is technically superior, yes, but is it worth more than twice the price on technical merit? Absolutely not. That's the product of marketing and scarcity.

By now the OP has moved on from both and his pursuing what will be better a Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet. 馃槈

Or Roger Smith vs Philippe Dufour. Real hand made stuff, none of this namby pamby "You never own a Patek Philippe..." nonsense where they churn out over 75,000 pieces a year.

Or a Zenith or Damasko (my choice) or any Lemania variant.
