Omega Speedmaster or Rolex Daytona.

The speedie is a design classic, wear it with your Ray Ban Aviators, Levis 501s and Brando leather jacket and you will look as smooth as sharkshit!
I think that gets missed because of the hype for the rolex.

Then go with the White one.
See the white dial is stunning (black too) and I feel is more attractive then the Daytona

If it's been done more than 1000 times, what is your purpose of another thread on this topic?
If he keeps replying to every post, it will get him a lot closer to 200. 😁

Just a tiresome subject, why does one have to be better than the other? I own both, I'd rate the 3861 with the new bracelet pretty equal with the modern Daytona overall, they both look good on the wrist and both function well and are reliable. The Omega has more of the old timey look, the Daytona more modern, take your pick. Value wise the Omega wins because they are available and you don't have to play games to get one. Both are excellent, modern chronographs.

I've strongly considered getting the Trilogy and influenced a friend to get one
Yes! The trilogy speedy is one to match a steel Daytona. It’s so damn sexy. If there’s a single (modern) watch that sums up Omega as a brand, it’s the Trilogy. It comes with a steel bracelet, several Nato straps and a few leather straps too.

Apparently Omega read our “single watch collection” thread. This is it!

Do you want the more frequently faked watch or the more frequently copied one?

Not sure what that even means, but I thought that a healthy discussion was what these forums were all about. I know these have been done 1000 times, but every time I read a post like this it always involve history, future value, etc. I want to have opinions based on the watch standing on it's own merit.

The watch market is fickle. Values are for speculators and flippers, People who bought used prior the pandemic have made out ok. If you bought at the peak of the pandemic then you have probably seen a loss on either the Speedy or Daytona- if you were inclined to sell.
Looking at watches as “investment” is a topic reserved for WUS, TRF and Reddit.

The overwhelming majority of members here buy for personal enjoyment and retaining value is a nice to have if we ever want to sell or trade (who “wants” to lose money).

As for my apples to oranges- they are both chronographs, they are both made of metal- that’s about where the comparison ends. Very different markets, very different price-points very different esthetics, very different design intent.
And only one of them actually qualified for space flight.

I'd say that it's about even between them. I have an Invicta that looks exactly like a Daytona, and Swatch group did it to themselves with the moonswatches.

The difference is that if you wear a Moonswatch is implies you have a sense of humor and liked the play on the theme that Omega themselves endorsed.
If you wear an Invicta Daytona wannabe it means you wanted a Daytona but bought the Invicta cause it was cheap and available.

I know of many Speedmaster owners who own Moonswatches. Can’t think of a single Daytona owner that owns an Invicta clone.

Not owned a Daytona, but my old boss had the steel bezel white dial variant.

Issues I hear (from people who aren’t buying it to flex). 40mm size is too small for a chronograph, when Rolex went in house from Zenith, sub dials aren’t central, screw down pushers are a faff, legibility is an issue.

Now I’ve owned a Speedy 3861 sapphire, only issue I felt was sometimes it didn’t feel ‘luxury’. It’s now a wad of cash & off to explain didn’t feel it.

Others have issues with the manual winding, I particularly liked this & used to manual watches as has a base Panerai as a daily.

WR Daytona wins, but 50m os good enough for swimming. Like all watches just get them checked. Even divers will fail

Looking back, I’ll own one in a heartbeat again.

Try a white dial 3861. I didn't love the sapphire black dial, but the white one is killer. Strangely I do love my hesalite 3861. Must be the different crystal shape.

I love the new FOIS sapphire to be on the current Speedy Pro. It seems to eliminate the milky ring (which has improved since the last gen).

The white looks sublime but not for me. I’d happily go back to the standard sapphire. If the hesalite had the applied logo and sapphire case back. That would be a winner.

Do you mean the logo in the center? My hesalite has it, and the FOIS sapphire has it. I wish the white one did. Not that I can see it without a loupe...

That member is describing a “hesalite sandwhich”, which has not been done with the 3861; however, with the addition of a AML dial, which was a feature not on the hesalite 3861.

As for the age old question, the answer is "It depends." It's up to the wearer. Personally, tried the Daytona on a while back and was unimpressed with the legibility of it, which should be the criteria of a chrono. Forget about marketing hype which is difficult, I know. The Daytona dial is overly busy compared to the Speedmaster. Might be the larger ceramic bezel, or it could be the subdials, or a combination of things.

Grabbed the White Dial when it came out before my Alaskan cruise. After having it for a while, found the aluminum bezel didn't match the watch. Reeplaced it with a ceramic one and does make a subtle difference matching the high polish shine of the hour markers and hands.

I agree with some of this, however they are SS chronographs and based on that they are worthy of a comparison. Both are mass produced luxury chronographs watches. This comparison isn't much different then comparing cars of the same category. We don't say a Rav 4 and a CRV both have 4 tires, 4 cylinders and 4 doors, but this is where the comparison ends, They were both designed for the same purpose and that is why they are comparable. Daytona and Speedmaster was designed for the same purpose and I believe are comparable. However you are entitled to your opinion.

All of your points are spot on. However, lux product is anything but logical. When you are stepping out of a $10k bracket, you are crossing into ultra lux. At this point, design and engineering logics get tossed out the window. At this price point forward, it's entirely an emotional purchase.

Legacy watches aren't sold on their mechanical excellence. I bought ( well, hunted and jumped over 632 hoops while singing the alphabet in reverse) an AP because my boss couldn't get it. I make sure I wear it every Friday with short sleeves. Worth every penny.
