Omega Speedmaster or Rolex Daytona.

So I know this as been done in some way or another more than 1000 times, but I want to look at it on each watches own merit. History and resale value is a large part of why people buy one of these two watches, however I want to get peoples options ( I know this is a bias omega forum) on these two watches based on quality and visual beauty ( I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder). For that reason, I want to use sapphire sandwich version because it uses modern materials that I feel would match better to a Daytona. Nothing wrong with the hesalite, but it is more geared to history, rather than materials for modern watch making. So the question is, does the Speedmaster carry quality, prestige, luxury on par or near on par with the Daytona or are they on two different level?

No, the Speedmaster is not on par with the Daytona.

It is far superior.

Oh man. You came to the wrong place and asked the wrong question. This is Speedmaster Forum. Of course we know Daytona is superior.

More importantly, which Speedy and which Daytona are you eyeing? Lots of members here own both. Generally speaking, Speedy for a bigger bang for your bucks. The general public recognized Daytona as a more desirable watch.

I'm looking at the Moonwatch, compared to the latest Daytona. I don't own a Daytona, but I do own a GMT and yes I would have to agree that the Rolex is marginally higher quality than the Speedmaster. However, I don't think that it is a great deal higher. Certainly no wear near the price they ask for one. Maybe because it is new, but I feel the moonwatch has a unique still that I feel is more attractive than the Rolex. Just an opinion for sure.

Problem solved.
Post some pics when you get it.

Worrying about resale values is a load of bollocks, why buy it if you are going to sell it?
Accept no imitations, go for the Speedie, it has class and some might rub off onto you.
Wear a Daytona and you'll look like all the other poser used car salesman.........no class all arse! ::stirthepot::🤣

This ain't a fair fight 😝

Ironically, these are my two favorite of these respective models, so if money is no object, I'm going WG Daytona on OF all day. Having said that, I've strongly considered getting the Trilogy and influenced a friend to get one, I'm sure you'll be happy with either watch.

Both mass produced chronographs made by similar watch companies. It’s just a matter of choice.

Wouldn’t call Omega better than Rolex and wouldn’t call Rolex better than Omega.

To me a Speedmaster and a Rolex Sub are the perfect two watch combination.

One way I will say that the Speedmaster trumps the Daytona is the Speedmaster is a strap monster and I love a strap 60% of the time.

You have to worry about resale value for the Daytona. How else are you getting one other than resale.

I think they’re about on par, with the deciding factors being subjective. Personally I find the Daytona dial too busy and I really don’t like the modern case. It seems overpolished even when brand new.

I would very much like to have a Daytona, panda dial of course. BUT, I am not willing to pay for it and wait however many years it takes to get one. So I have four Speedies. Three new ones this year. And a Tudor I got last Christmas. Daytona ish.

The Speedmaster is iconic and very legible and quite robust, the Daytona does lack legibility particularly in low light.

Both are great watches I figure either one would be a suitable watch for a collection or as a stand alone one watch.

The speedie is a design classic, wear it with your Ray Ban Aviators, Levis 501s and Brando leather jacket and you will look as smooth as sharkshit!

Then go with the White one.

Apples and oranges- a masterbatory exercise in every way.
I disagree with apples an oranges. For price for sure, but quality I disagree. I believe the quality for a Daytona is similar too a Rolex GMT and I can say with confidents that the GMT is not apples and oranges to the Speedmaster. It may edge it out with the clasp or the maybe even the bracelet, but not apples and oranges. It is just barely. If you want to talk price, the ss version of both brands are out of step for sure with each other, but the gold versions or the same is reverse. the Speedmaster is slightly more expensive than the Daytona. So I fail to see this incredible difference.

Don't see the far superior. Don't see it. Not the market hype, but the watches themselves.

If it's been done more than 1000 times, what is your purpose of another thread on this topic?

True and they are not worth 4 times the price of a Speedmaster. Sure they can be worth more, but 4 times?? These watches are driven up to this price because of lack of availability and a need to have a status symbol. Speedmaster doesn't command status, but appeals to the watch nerds.
